I quit watching MLB for many reasons but one is that there aren't enough American players. I follow college baseball. I would prefer to have some point of reference when watching MLB. Many good college athletes are beaten out by joses that can't speak English.

Don't laugh but the Brazilians have damn near taken over the Professional Bull Riders association. They are making good money and taking every dime of it back home. I have yet to hear more than one or two that doesn't need a translator when being interviewed.

So it's okay for communist Chinese to come play basketball, but it's not okay for communist Cubans to come play baseball?

Are there even any Chinese players in MLB? I know of some Japanese and some Koreans, but I don't think I know of even one Chinese MLB player

73% of players on Opening Day rosters were acquired through the draft. That's 549 players. That includes Canada and Puerto Rico, as they fall under the draft and not the international free agent process. Of that 549, 59% were drafted from 4 year colleges.

So 44% of the players on opening day rosters came from 4 year schools, while only 27% were signed internationally.

If you think 1/4th of the league is too many, that's more of a reflection on you than on the league.

Brazil is also likely to be one of the next big baseball pipelines.

While I hope they find a way to allow Cubans to come play without defecting, you must have missed this part: "erroneous interpretation ...the Cuban Baseball Federation was not part of Cuba’s communist government"

Yeah, I'm selling the fact that the Chinese Basketball Association isn't controlled in any way by the communist central government of China.

Who's buying?

China doesn't really have a great baseball developmental structure. There are no players that grew up playing in China in MLB. Austin Brice was born in Hong Kong, but was drafted out of a North Carolina high school.

Japan, South Korea, and Chinese Taipei are the major baseball powers in Asia.

Ming was an exception. An exception and an influx are not the same thing.

I didn't think there were, I misread that post anyway, I didn't see it was about Chinese basketball players.

This sums up the sentiment of a large portion of people who stopped watching baseball when they allowed the darkies to play with whites. unreal how backwoods and ignorant some Americans still are in 2019.

read the whole article in the link. MLB teams signing a contract, the part below is what i believe is "against current US law". is essence, MLB would be paying the Cuban government a kickback for signing players. Imagine a $10m contract and a team paying the Cuban Government $1.5-2.5m....

quote:

Under the deal agreed by MLB and the Cuban federation in December, MLB teams were going to pay the federation a fee ranging from 15 percent to 25 percent of the value of player contracts

Nope...

Neither should be allowed to be employed here.

What's funny is that the top Cuban players are coming over anyway. The new system was just going to make that process safer for them.
