Somebody correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the army age was different than navy / Air Force & this brings the army’s rules into alignment with the other branches.
Oh maybe that's what it was. I was looking at coast guard or air force. Didn't realize they each had different ages.

I would have thought the Army's would have been higher to begin with due to their use of warrant officers.

Good news, that's every medic's solution to every problem.
That’s why my brother is immune to the stuff after a hitch in the Navy

I would have joined at 35 if I had the chance. Divorce is a bitch for many a man.

Shouldn't be surprising. The ghouls want blood, just not their own.

Perhaps in the age of the internet and more information, young people are more reluctant to sign up to be cannon fodder so a bunch of old guys can get rich.
More likely due to White Liberal Karens raising a bunch of boys that think they are girls and would never fight for this country.

Time for you pro war Trump supporters to be sent off to Iran
I'm a Trump supporter, not pro war...but I support his decision to take out the nuclear capabilities of an evil regime that has threatened our mere existence for 47 years. And if it takes boots on the ground to complete the job, so be it.
No one in the military today was forced to be there...there is no draft and since the day I held my hand up and swore my allegiance to this country, there was no draft. Our military is all-volunteer, and God bless those volunteers.
If you served, I thank you for your service...but usually statements like yours are made by those who never wore the uniform.

42? If I stayed in I was retirement eligible at 38!
I can’t imagine some 40 year old in basic.

One of the key issues affecting military recruitment in 2025 is the declining qualification rates among American youth.
In 2020, a report by the Department of Defense showed us that 23% of American youth are eligible to serve in the military.
Many young people no longer meet the basic requirements for military service, which include:
Physical fitness
Educational achievement
Mental and physical health
quote:
Achieving the fitness level required for military enlistment is increasingly challenging due to lifestyle changes and reduced physical activity.
The same principle goes for the Coast Guard and other organizations.
To combat these problems, the military has introduced programs like the Future Soldier Preparatory Course, which aims at helping young Americans meet enlistment standards.
However, while helpful, these efforts are just beginning to address the larger issue. The need for greater investment in youth health and education has become apparent as these challenges continue to grow.

The military must contend with a competitive job market that offers:
Stability
Financial incentives
Career advance
Moreover, the perception that military service may limit certain human rights and freedoms depending on the situation, such as:
Flexibility in career choices
Lifestyle
Geographic mobility
quote:
The military’s recruitment struggles are exacerbated by declining trust and heightened political divisiveness in the U.S. Many Americans now see the military as politicized, impacting its appeal to potential recruits.
A survey by the Ronald Reagan Foundation and Institute showed that trust in uniformed services dropped significantly, from 70% in 2017 to 48% in 2020.
The drop is partly attributed to debates over issues like “wokeness” and whether the military is deviating from its core mission of national defense.
