The truth :
Per this article, the pic is a year old & wasn't mainly to simulate human touch but rather to get proper blood circulation in someone's cold hand to take an accurate oxygen reading.

That’s sad and 100% unnecessary. Let the sick be with their loved ones. There is no shortage of PPE. Give the family members what they need so they can be there.

My hospital allowed visitors in end of life situations. We were not that cold. I’m retired now.
