If Unions supported GOP canidates would this change your mind about Unions? I hear this from so many people that work in idustries courted by Unions. While in college i worked for a large steel mill in Texas in the summer. The place was beyone anti union and this was in 1994-1996. Since then the company has been sold it esop program taken away and wages havent risen in 10+ years. I have friends that work there still and bitch constantly about how bad the company treats them but would never vot for a union because they support the DEMS. The GOP has never supported workers rights, so i can understand why Unions support DEMS. It's a horrible move by the Unions.

Unions are corrupt to the core.

Most major corporations are as well.

Worker gets fricked either way.

No. Unions are trash. They don't protect good workers, as good workers would have no problems finding work. They protect shitty workers and make it impossible to cut dead weight.

Some unions or similar bodies are pro-GOP, mainly the rank-and-file of your police and firefighter unions.

In fact in a lot of trade unions this may actually be the case: the rank-and-file is conservative while leadership is liberal. (This wouldn't apply to teachers, government employees, and of that ilk.)

There should be no such thing as a government employee union. I don't care about the rest of them. They are relics of the past.

Unions that make sense- trade unions that offer apprenticeships, testing standards, and certify work. Pipe fitters, electrical, construction.

The rest? Outdated and serve no positive role in our economy.

Unions would only support the GOP if they felt that illegal aliens were a threat to lower their wages. I think the union rank and file folks are more conservative than their leadership because they feel that illegal aliens are keeping wages low for their non-union family, friends, and neighbors.

Unions and corporations are corrupt for the same reason: they are able to get favorable treatment by contributing money to election campaigns of key politicians.

Right, I think construction trades are fine. Public unions don't make a lot of sense to me.

That is going to be one of the interesting issues if DeSantis becomes the candidate. Can he appeal to the blue collar union guys like Trump?

I don't find the concept of unions that objectionable as long as they remain voluntary.

In practice they're corrupt trash.

There’s nothing in the fundamental core of unions that would align with conservative issues. This is the dumbest “what if” question ever asked.

Unions aren’t inherently bad.

Public unions should be illegal.

But unions are free associations of likeminded individuals.

Unions advocating for progressivism are the enemy of freedom. They should be mocked.

Unions advocating for worker’s rights is great.

I'm pretty meh on private sector unions but completely oppose public sector unions. Government already has enough corruption and waste embedded within them without a union adding to it

Utter bullshite. GOP has never been an ally of Big Labor. The GOP has had to fight Big Labor to end closed shops, right to work legislation, etc., in many red states.

Geez, you sound just like my grandfather who died 25 years ago.

He worked for nearly 40 years for Standard Oil and would have gladly paid 95% of his income in taxes to Democrats rather than ever vote for a Republican. All because "The Democrats are for the working man".

Unions on top of civil service protections virtually guarantee a lazy, useless public sector.

Forcing you to join a union is "anti worker."

You communists are retarded.

Even those you mention are iffy. As some other poster noted, these unions protect inferior and less productive craftsmen. The work on the 2 new nuclear reactors outside Augusta is a prime example.

I’ve never known anybody to not get screwed by a union somewhere down the line one way or another

And yet people keep defending their right to get screwed. For whatever reason. I’m anti-union.
