A few news publications and sites under the same ownership had a unionization vote coming up. Employees had been told that if they voted to unionize, ownership would close the businesses. They voted to unionize. The businesses are closed.

Cause and Effect

Note that the article about this first calls the warnings from the owner threats (because the anti-union business owner is evil, right?), then questions whether unionization was really the cause (because unions are benign, right?)

You have to love the way the article points out that Ricketts is a Trump supporter (as if it has anything to do with the story), then suggests the closures were out of "revenge".

Well done Mr. Rickets, well done indeed.

I hope it was payback. I notice they mention Huffpo laying off unionized workers in the middle of the story.

Don't let the spin fool you, the companies were bleeding cash and were going to go belly up any day. The unionization was almost certainly an attempt to earn collective bargaining rights ahead of the impending bankruptcy so as to guarantee the workers more money, faster. I saw reports of the first round of layoffs (when the company was acquired) waiting 3-6 months for back pay.

Given the reported severance deal they got, I would say it worked. Don't let the spin from either side paint this as a labor issue.

Clever spin but why would they willingly lose the PR battle then? Why not publicly state this since it's already been settled?

Not surprised to see conservatives against the working man (union) and for the greedy man (corporations).

I have always thought Trump could pick up millions of votes if he started to join union picket lines.

No, I am not kidding, I am dead serious.

His populist campaign has been anti elite and anti moving jobs abroad. Every time a plant mobes to Mexico and Union will protest. Trump should join and chant American Jobs Yes, Exporting jobs NO! or something like that.

If you call yourself a Trump fan and a populist you should be for unions not against them. Sure they are not perfect, go in and change them.

Oh and it is true, the word on the street has been that the days for that outfit were numbered. They have been laying off lots of people for over a year. It was a big experiment in Internet media that failed. This is not due to the union vote.

Typical working man and woman pulling 145 mil on brokering sale of US owned elements. Probably a good time to start getting woke.

That would hinge on if the unions change their tunes about their party politics. Trump keeps doing what he's doing as far as trying to get jobs back to America and yes, back to the uninons if it so fits them. The telling moment of unions backing someone other than a democrat remains to be seen. The ball is in their court.

As someone who was a private union man for 42 years, I don't see unions giving many kudos to a republican but I hope I'm wrong as hell.

Why would unions support a party that has been against the unions ever sense Ronald Reagan fired every air traffic controller for going on strike?

There you go again exposing your lack of knowledge about the situation. Reagan didn't fire anybody. The union broke their word of a "no strike" clause in their agreement. They fired themselves. Reagan just enforced the law. You know, kind of like breaking your promise of being faithful to a spouse. That has dire consequences also.

Unions suck. Most do not help the good workers. They are just sucking up dues and are in bed with the owners quite frequently.
