The last time they changed it they reduced the number of weeks. I was on UI at the time, you know what I did when my UI ran out? I got a goddamn job, was it a job I liked?, yes and no. It was in sales, I HATE SALES because I hate dealing with the uneducated who think they know more than they do, but it was with Geek Squad and they are cool. I had to pay bills. When I finished school, quit that job at graduation and had a job in my field 2 weeks later.

Tell him to get a goddamn job.

Why SHOULDN'T someone who was working and paying taxes get some of that money back in the form of unemployment insurance?

Um, taxes do not, primarily, go to UI, employers pay that separately. It is not until the last 1/3 of that time, all these extensions that the federal government throws tax money at it and that is a recent addition. Traditionally UI is self funded by employers and should remain that way.

Hey HailHail, I have been working for 37 years and my employers have paid in a lot of money to insure me against unemployment. Never collected a dime. So what do you think about folks like me getting a nice 'bonus' for never using it? Or do you think that only people too frigging proud to take a lower paying job should benefit from the years I worked? People with your attitude just, well, never mind.......

You just totally made that statistic up

Sucks for you that the communist labor board keeps vast demo records.

The average time for a person to find employment is approximately 1 month after their U/E insurance benefits run out.

Why do you suppose that is?

A good friend of mine who got laid off awhile back falls into the group that is currently not receiving benefits due to the extension not having passed a couple of weeks ago. Now DC is on vacation for a week. I hear the next vote won't be till the 28th. This has to pass at some point huh? He is starting to bug the crap out of me for money.

Your friend is a lazy POS, apparently. He's been having benefits for 99 weeks. Tell him to man up and get a job.

sure but the employee is still funding this. Its part of the cost to have an employee, and if that cost went down theoretically your wages would rise. While employers cut the check, its a "benefit" for the employee and is part of their compensation.

So they are paying for it. Might as well use it.

But, he isn't too proud to take a handout? Your logic makes no sense.

It is when the government keeps extending time after time to the point that those recieving it take it for granted that the money will not stop coming in.

99 weeks worth of unemployment is "some"?

I don't expect someone who works as a professional to go out to Burger King for an application after day 1 of losing their job. I'm not even upset if they are using the benefit that is unemployment $$$ while searching for a job.

But if you can't find something you like within the allotted 26 week time frame, then you need to start thinking about taking that restaurant job to have some sort of income while you still search for something more suitable to your desires in employment.

Saying someone is "too proud" to work a food service job after nearly 2 years of unemployment is just asinine.

Some people who are to proud to work those kinds of jobs are also some of the ones who are not really qualified or skilled enough to command a better job. Kind of a catch 22.

Not saying your friend is one of those. Just that there are many like that.

I would guess that was 99 weeks ago. But then again awhile sounds better than saying 2 years ago. Your friend is a POS.

I could not imagine having a friend that lived on UE for 99 weeks and me not telling them to stop living off the backs of others. It's people like you and your friend that have drove this county into the ground. Him for taking it and for you not telling him to stop it.

But not to proud to hit the OP up for money. Would working a crap job at a food joint prevent the guy from looking for a better job? No, and it would probably be more appreciated by a prospective employer than just hanging out living off handouts.
