That the UK has doctor shortages could have been predicted by every conservative who has ever lived. And, liberals refused to accept it.

They’ve run out of cheap doctors to import and pay below-market wages.

Is this 2 year program going to train the nurses to take care of their post op complications?

In fairness, they may be as good as the surgeon who’s getting paid £95,000 annually.

The modern day dentist is about the level of a nurse as compared to an oral surgeon. Probably a bit less skilled even.

The training paradigm is so different for nurses. They will struggle, and outcomes will be poorer.

just read up on this

Doctors will have their tax bills paid by the NHS in a bid to avert a winter crisis caused by understaffing.

Thousands of medics will be offered an emergency deal, amid growing concern about the number of consultants refusing to work overtime because they are hit by a pensions “tax trap”.

The rules mean doctors can be hit with tax rates of more than 90 per cent on their earnings - including their pension contributions - if they earn more than £110,000 a year.

Holy shite.

There is that wonderful socialized medicine system.

Wow.

I’m not sure I would continue working if that was the case.

I get the overall point and agree with you but this part confused me, do you feel British surgeons are exiting the UK due to taxes there?

Great info for PDJT's debate with whomever of the "Moral Busy-Bodies" is left on the D stage come election time.

Training nurses makes no sense, they are needed for support. They should train janitors to do the surgery and let nurses continue with their present duties.

They are refusing to work overtime because they pay and pensions are docked 90%.

That is insane.

it's probably a combination of things to include fewer people going into it in the first place

Because contrary to what liberals think you don't get the same amount of people to do something when you offer them less to do it

That is a factor.

Why give up nearly a decade of your life for minimal pay?

£110,000 for a surgeon?!

Anyone who goes into that is an idiot.

It isn’t financially worth it.

I have a buddy of mine in Canada. He was telling me the current wait time for a hip or knee replacement is about 2.5 years. That’s insane.
