It's comical.

The UAW’s president, however, called the offer “insulting.”

i will wager if that offer went to members, they would pass it.

allowing people who make 6 figures, decide on if you have a job is asinine. they will get paid, while your getting shitty strike pay. They will keep their gigs, when you lose your job over plant closing.

UAW should follow the writers guild and strike!

I bought my last union built vehicle in 2004. Will never buy another one. Too many non-union options available.

Let them strike. Let Detroit fall back into ruin - assuming it is not still there.

There are plenty of car makers in the South to build cars in U.S.

In the UAW "demands" did they offer to not increase salary but instead get stock options that would be worth more if they were profitable?

An people wonder why they pay $50,000 for a car that should cost $30,000.

Temporary workers, who supplement full-time employees, would also receive 20% wage increases to roughly $20 an hour.

Not part of the union.

GM’s proposed contract also includes two additional 3% lump sum payments resulting in a total wage increase of 16%; $5,500 ratification bonus; $6,000 one-time inflation-recognition payment; and $5,000 in inflation-protection bonuses over the life of the agreement, which in-progression employees are eligible.

All subject to a 33% tax.

40% is high and 32 hour week is bullshite but I wouldn't accept that offer

Which is precisely why wages are more stagnant than louisiana backwater in the The Atchafalaya Basin. I pay 6% a paycheck in union dues, don’t pay for blue cross healthcare, and have 3 pensions.

That’s pretty funny but the being paid less isn’t even remotely close to true, at least not in Alabama. Hourly wage can be somewhat close if you get lucky at the right shop, but benefits aren’t even close. Right now a first year journeyman electrician is making 30+ on the paycheck plus above benefits.

People bitch and complain about people not joining trades etc etc. I left sales after 12 years and got an apprenticeship. Let me tell you, it’s pretty hard to get an apprenticeship as a 33 year old with no construction experience, trust me I tried off and on for 2 years. It’s been the best decision I’ve personally ever made. School is paid for, getting paid for work and school, and am in a trade that is losing people due to retirement to gaining apprentices 50:1.

The UAW wrecked them before and plan to do it again.

GM was known as a health insurance company that happened to make cars on the side.

Won’t that cost the car companies more? This board has taught me that unions are useless and lazy, and the true path to security is paved by individuals willing to work hard to separate themselves from their peers to negotiate their true value directly with their employer.

the demands are outrageous because bidenomics is dumping money into car companies for ev and the unions want more of it. the problem is that the govt will have to keep dumping more tax payer dollars into ev to sustain it. unions are mostly supported by the tax payer these days. none of those union workers are negotiating anything. it's just business reps looking for a way to get their hands on some more tax payer money. they're like the MIC, they've just become another burden on the tax payers.

that's not how unions work. it's socialism, all workers get paid by the same scale, except for those at the top skimming money off everyone else.
