Unions generally make sure the employer maintains proper safety precautions and training.

That used to be true in the past, but they have now moved to being an entity that circumvents OSHA requirements at the request of it's members.

You'll see a lot of union car plants that don't require safety toe shoes, long pants, or hardhats.

Especially amusing coming from a MS NAACP President.

Perhaps the NAACP and Unions can get in a big fight over who is still relevant and actually needed.

I would LMAO if MS NAACP donations dropped to nothing ... only to later find out that the reason is that people can't afford it due to paying union dues.

, if Unions are so great, as you claim

I never claimed unions are great. There are plenty of negatives about unions. I simply recognize the good they can provide to their members.

quote:

then why would Unions need the Democratic Party to survive and flourish?

The Democratic Party from the 20's through the 70's was a fighter for Unions and organized labor. For many of those same years Republicans attempted to stymie their influence, and the Democrats fought that. That started changing in the 80's when the Democrats started taking in more campaign contributions from corporations. Bill Clinton was the culmination of that.

quote:

Conditions are highly favorable for the Unions to have the upper hand... people simply keep rejecting it in larger and larger numbers.

Not really. Manufacturing has largely moved to the south where there is an ingrained mentality that unions are evil. A lot of people reject them out of ignorance. They've fallen for the Republican propaganda that they simply take your dues and do nothing to help you. Now, unions absolutely got greedy and more power hunger which contributed to the Democrats starting to abandon them, so there is a kernel of truth to that propaganda.

I saw a lot of this first hand growing up in the 80's My dad was a union guy and was VP of his local union. So certainly I have some ingrained biases I'll admit.

People that can unionize and vote against it certainly are dumb. Unions do a lot of shady shite, but one thing the almost always do is make life better for its members. Better wages, better benefits, legal protection, etc.

In 1907 I would have agreed with you. In 2017, no.

Only if you're a low achiever. If you have initiative, unions suck the life out of your job and block advancement

I agree.

They have become self-serving dinosaurs. And in the northeast, they're essentially an organized crime unit.

Could you imagine if a white guy said that? He'd be ruined in 24 hrs.

Over 2000 "part time" workers making only $12 per hour.

How do you think they will vote?

don't think enough people will vote in favor of a union, but that won't stop Bernie Sanders from blaming the Republicans and racists white people who work at the plant

Union means more people voting democrat.

Mississippi has a high increase of minority's. They make up 40% of the population. If union members and minority's start voting it could make the state less red. It had a increase of 70% of minority's between 2000 and 2010(which led the country).
