UAW bargaining update

"UAW members and Ford reached a tentative labor agreement Wednesday, the union announced, ending weeks of strikes at the company. The deal includes a 25 percent wage increase over the course of four years, with 11 percent coming in the first year. Cost of living increases could lift the pay to 33 percent, UAW said."
Stellantis may follow suit, as well.

They'll all be out of work in a few years, when Ford gets their plant in Mexico up and running.

Should have fired them all.
How long can it take to train replacement workers?

From someone who works in the industry, to train a couple of people at a time to do the processes would take a couple of weeks to be proficient enough to keep up with the work at whatever the line speed is.
To do this en masse with, I don't know, 2500 to 3000 people per facility, six months minimum.
The facility I work in (Nissan Canton, MS) began hiring in 2002 and the first vehicles didn't launch until May 2003.

Wish they would have all gone bankrupt. To hell with gm and ford.

As much as I hate rooting against America, I wish all three manufacturers would follow up the new contract announcement with a separate announcement that they are moving all manufacturing operations to Queretaro in time to close all US plants at the expiration of this new contract.

4-6 weeks. About the time it took for this strike.

It would take longer than that to get enough people hired to do the jobs.
You are talking about starting over from scratch. There are thousands of employees at each facility.
When we started up, a hiring class consisted of no more than 30 to 50.
It will take months to get it up and running.
I know yall think robots build cars and stuff, and in some areas they do, but outside of body assembly and paint, humans do most of the work of putting cars together.
To think you can just restart a huge assembly plant like this with thousands of new employees in a few weeks is just silly.
FWIW I'm no fan of the UAW, I just have 20 years experience in this industry.

LOL
same dumbshits in here thinking they know how much a car costs to make.
You fricktards pay primo dollar for a vehicle made in Mexico, or central america. PS it would be same amount made by union workers.
The same trucks being made in Mexico, cost the same as the ones being made by Americans. You morons will never get it, but that's why the conservatives use you like bitches, follow blindly, like sheeple.
I'm not pro union, but the stupidity on here is laughable.
Let's root for Americans to lose their job, so we can pay the SAME sticker price for a bunch of mexicans making pennies on the dollar to make. Let's line Companies pockets, they arent doing shite for me, but screw americans.

Not taking sides. But it is most likely that they would not have had to replace every worker.

Understood. But my reply was specifically geared towards the fire all the UAW workers and just start over with all new workers in 4-6 weeks. That would be impossible.
The only horse I have in this race is that we will hopefully get a raise in order to keep up with the industry standard. Lol. Other than that, I couldn't care less about whether the big 3 go under or not.

What good is that big raise if you get laid off?
quote:
In two separate state filings, GM executives said they are laying off 945 auto workers starting January 1, 2024, who are currently employed at its Orion Assembly Plant in Orion Township, Michigan.
The layoffs at the Orion plant are the result of GM’s delaying its conversion to produce Electric Vehicles (EVs) like the Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV.
At GM’s Lansing Grand River Assembly/Stamping plant in Lansing, Michigan, executives said 369 auto workers will be laid off starting January 1, 2024, through March of next year. The layoffs come as GM ends production of the Camaro.

You hate to see it, but at the same time....
Posted on 12/15/23 at 6:52 pm to CR4090
I believe the layoffs were impacted by a safety issue discovered with EV's being produced there. A few High level executives were given the pink slip too.

The problem with modern unions is they only are looking out for their own collective without regard to the potential consequences as manufacturers simply look out in the future towards moving plants domestically to Right to Work states and expanding foreign footprints.. union members are just as selfish as the corporate class in only looking out for themselves to the detriment of the overall worker pool they so desperately claim to be in alliance with..
