You pay the city taxes on power and food?

Classic case of
1. Posting while drunk
2. Not sleeping on it before you hit that submit button

That's something you say in front of friends, not immortalize in digital form.

I have an uncle who was once a small town mayor.

He would have people show up at his house at night and and on the weekend and would call as late as 10PM to bitch and moan.

He didn't run for a second term.

There is no telling how much crap this Mayor put up with until he snapped.

It’s terrible advice. Have you ever tried burning wood harvested from a live tree?

I added the text of the mayor's posts to my post on the first page for those who want more details.

Yes I did read it. I stand by my statement. But I'm not a elected mayor.

Did I say anything about a live tree? Did he? (I did not read the entire rant)

This is different than just being an innocent wife being punished for the actions of her husband.

The fricking idiot didn’t even give good advice

What other options do these folks have for power? If no other, then why did the government allow a monopoly to exist? Can they dig a well for water? Maybe, but if they don't have a water table to get to, then why did his fricking government allow the land to be zoned for building homes? If you allow a home to be built where there is no option to well for water in an emergency, then that is on this cocksucker's government.

He can't have it both ways. If they want a government, then they have do what they have to do. If they don't then get rid of the government and let the people find a way. Don't tell people they have to be on their own and then sit there and collect your damn government check. Abolish the government and get rid of his arse if that is what he really wants. What a scummy pos.

If the gas and power went off I would have to install a wood burner in my house on the fly while freezing.

Good Lord, son.

This is a tiny town in the poor, rural Texas panhandle. Most towns in Texas of this size have a paid City Manager, who does most of the day-to-day work of running city services. The position of mayor is part-time and usually UNcompensated, with perhaps a small stipend for each Council meeting attended.

The guy looks to be in his early 30s. I seriously doubt that he personally-controlled zoning for the last 100 years or selection of the local utility company.

You need to take a deep breath.

Agree with everything he said. I could live for a year in my house with some stored food and water. Do people not have clothes to layer with and blankets? My 78 yo mother is alone and has had no power for three days and her biggest complaint is she is bored and ran out of booze. Dude shouldn't even apologize. It sucks and its a mess and the power conglomerate has alot to answer for. But...I have coworkers that say they might night make it another night in the cold. Really? Shovel some snow, do some burpees. I was hot af after moving ice in my driveway.

Or you could have bought a generator and a kerosene heater at any time in the last several years.

The mayor words it poorly but brings up a good point in that the overwhelming majority of households are basically incompetent and neglectful when it comes to diaster preparedness. This is a once in a century event and people are on Facebook blaming everyone but themselves for burst pipes, not having some non-perishables stocked up, a small generator, etc. ready when there was a week of forecasts stating how bad this could get. Idiot Karens whining about the local roads not being salted and how that's the mayor's fault.

Everyone knew this was happening. We stocked up on food, booze, etc Friday, we procured a cord of firewood and hav gas to cook with. People walking around expecting wood but not offering to pay for it . I’ve given it to elderly neighbors but these transplants ain’t getting it.
