You are correct, which is why this war was always stupid.
Nothing truly changes without regime change. Regime change always required invasion (and there was no guarantee of success there).

Closing the strait was irans move of last resort.
In essentially ANY other situation the world would be ticked at them and be cheering and aiding us on. Iran knows that and that’s why they never pulled that lever until now.
