There were times under Biden, Obama and Clintoin when Dems held the Senate and WH and did NOT kill the filibuster.

Why? For the same reason the GOP hesitates now "What will happen when the GOP gets power back"?

Right now it's "mutually assured destruction" so neither party wants to be the first to fire the nuke. Let's hope it stays that way.

Not wanting to give the DEMs this power is very conservative

Not wanting to give any part this power to make legislation (expanding government) easier is a libertarian stance.

Only overly emotional types think something has changed.

What you and all other libertarians have failed to realize is that your perpetual crusade against MAGA plays right into giving the dems power.

You don’t have another option to save the country from the left. You don’t have to like that fact, but it’s still a fact.

frick you and your willfully ignorant schtick.

Trump needs to do any and everything he can to go scorched earth on the left now.

What does this have to do with anything. It appears you’re incapable of arguing something logically

Are libertarians pushing to remove the filibuster? Or is MAGA?

I don’t know what the answer on the filibuster is.

I know what will happen when the dems get power back.

You can laugh all you want, but there aren’t 80 million of you coming to vote out the left. Your hyper-principled stances are no match for the promise of free shite and other people’s money that the left is offering.

Republicans should NEVER lose control of the Senate. That's where the Framers gave us home field advantage - a bunch of cow kickers in Wyoming have just as much power as the 40 million person engine of California.

There are 30 Red States. Plus, historically the Senate seems to act and embody a more principled, stoic body which would seemingly open the door for polished moderates in purple states like NH, VA, NJ.

Hold serve at home and pour enormous resources into stealing a seat or two and you are potentially looking at a filibuster proof majority of 60. At the very least you shouldn't even have to consider the possibility of dropping to 49.

Well, they didn’t do it when they had the chamber for four years as recently as last year, so no I don’t think it’s something they’d for sure just ditch.

The reasons the GOP doesn’t want to do it are the same for the Dems. Neither side wants to hand that over to their opponents when turnabout becomes fair play.

It was the Democrats who got burned on judicial appointments doing this exact thing. They member

Harry Reid did away with filibuster rule for presidential appointments in 2013. Yep dems have done it.

Thank God. For a while there I believed a president was impeached (rare in history) and then impeached again (twice, that's never happened). Then that former president was charged with mishandling of classified documents case (a first for a former president), charged with obstructing a legal proceeding (a first for a former president), falsifying records in NY (a first for a former president), racketeering in GA (a first for a former president) and convicted of 34 felonies (of which all were misdemeanors but got elevated) (also a first for a former president).

Oh yeah, that former president also had opponents try to use the 14th amendment to keep him off of the ballot in some states (a first - you can try to use the Lincoln off the ballots in the South in 1860 but that's a bit of a misnomer).

Then he was shot (not a first but rare) and then had another assassination attempt on his life.

Thank God you've cleared this up (sarcasm font implied).

Trump knows if the Democrats win the Senate in the house he’s over. They will impeach him and he will be the first president to actually get impeached and removed from office.

The House only requires a simple majority to impeach, but the Senate requires a 2/3 majority to convict and remove from office.

There's only 2 senate seats currently held by Republicans that are in next year's election cycle that are expected to be competitive races. Susan Collins trying to get re-elected and Thom Tillis' replacement since he's retiring. And the Georgia seat currently held by Dems could be a potential flip back to GOP.

GOP has a 53-47 majority. They aren't losing the senate next year. And even if they did, it won't be anywhere close to the 67 votes that would be needed to remove Trump from office.

When have they voted to remove the filibuster on legislation in those 30 years?

Come on now they tried it and Sinema and Manchin didn't vote with them otherwise they'd have done it.

But you know this. Next time those two won't be there.

Trump is really digging in on pressing the Senate to remove this procedure. His reasoning is when the Democrats gain control they will remove the filibuster and ram liberal shite down the nation's throat

Trump may only have a year and two months to get his Agenda done. I understand why he wants to eliminate it.
