I was watching Bill Maher and Paul Begala (idiot) was stating that Trump has 30-35% of the base locked in and the rest will split the remaining vote in the primary.

I don't get the vibe for this upcoming primary. That may have been the case coming out of his first term, but he's become unhinged and I think he's driving people away. Just look at this Board as Exhibit 1.

I think primary voters will want a winner who can beat the Dems - and that's not Trump. It'll be harsh but DeSantis will get the nod. I just hope Trump doesn't burn the house down.

He has become unhinged and he’s the way the right loses, but you underestimate the power and allure of the cult. Even still they try to justify everything ignorant he says and does

The hard-core Trumpers will vote for him, no matter what. Remember, these are morons who thought QAnon was real. And he’ll get slaughtered in the general election. Stupid is as stupid does.

I think Trump probably has a solid 1/3. Seems realistic to me.

I do think DeSantis would have a clearer/quicker path to consolidate than most in a crowded primary, though.

I was waiting to see if he had changed from the bombast we saw in the 2016 election and afterwards. I was hoping he would give some policy speeches. He mostly complained about how unfair people have been to him and played golf. He played a lot of golf. And now he has started some policy discussions. And I hope firing squads for multiple people is just a BS rumor. But it looks like he has started the stupid name calling.
He was the only candidate who could beat Hillary in 2016 I have no doubt. And he had to take out the republican competition in that election cycle and he did. I can't see it working anymore. I held my nose and voted for him twice. I won't do it again. And he's too old anyway.

I watched the exchange, and I think Begala was living in early 2021, rather than early 2023.

Trump still DOES have an unassailable base, but it is no-longer 30-35% of GOP primary voters. Probably more like 15-20%.

Less than it WAS, but still a damned-handy thing to have, though.

People forget that the primaries are run state by state. So instead of saying Trump leads DeSantis by such and such tell me what candidates lead in each state. The nominee that wins the most delegates (i.e., from each state )wins the nomination.

Don't worry about it so much. You're only one vote. Vote your guy and let the chips fall where they may. The folks that liked Trump's America will vote for Trump and the anyone but Trump camp will vote for the other. Time will tell if that's Desantis but it's going to require him to announce.

Seems the establishment was successful in carving up the right. Like a hot knife through butter. Is what it is. The saying that the house always wins is the truth. You can't win if you can't see the rulebook.

Begala came prepped with one-liners but was a clown on substance.

That's what I'm afraid of - even if it's 15-20%, and he runs as an independent, then it all comes down.

Begala is usually damned-competent, but he was playing to the audience last Friday.

A valid concern.

Despite all indications to the contrary, Trump is not an idiot, and he MUST understand that he is unelectable at this point. So, does he want to achieve SOMETHING or instead want just to "watch the world burn," in the famous words of Alfred Pennyworth.

If the latter, the GOP is seriously fricked, because his "Trump under ANY circumstances" base is DEFINITELY large-enough to hand the election to the Dems if he runs Independent. If the former, however, what does he WANT? Ivanka as party chair? Junior as VP? Eric as head of MHMR? Melania as Ambassador to Lichtenstein? What can he successfully extort from the GOP in exchange for not handing the Presidency to the Dems?

Where are you coming up with 15% when all polls show hes leading by large margins. Don is not going to run as an independant. Only dotards would think that would happen

Most of the people I know who will vote for Trump don't even know what QAnon is.

That’s the problem with Republicans. If “their” candidate doesn’t get the nod, they either don’t vote or vote for the other guy. Democrats vote lock step with whoever the candidate is. They could run Satan on the ticket and he would get 99% of the dem vote.

Honestly, it doesn’t matter now. Election Fraud will ensure democrats at least have a share of power if not all of it.

Only way we can fix things is for everyone to stop paying taxes, but we won’t have enough folks willing to get on board so we just have to watch the destruction of this country and hope we are able to see the other side of the fallout.

He doesn't need to explain shite to you weirdos. You're all in on Trump, no matter what, and most people don't sit around cooking up stupid theories about who talked to who that one time.

He will need to explain that and what he was doing to the prisoners to the suburban moms. And he will need to answer to the hispanic community. They like machismo and ron has very little of that. We see how he caved with disney and flew illegals INTO the country not out. What a winner that is with them
