I think you might be looking at this wrong.

Yes, the pundits have been saying a VP pick doesn’t really move the needle, but this election will be won or lost in the rust belt. The past two elections the rust belt (MI, WI, PA) have collectively never been closer (2% or less).

I myself was thinking Youngkin would have been a good pick for the thought he would help in VA, but realistically you aren’t overcoming 10 pts election 2020 vs 2024.

What is more realistic is getting 1/3 between MI, WI, PA. The margins were so tight last election. This could help if even minimal, but every bit helps.

I’m pretty confident that if trump gets 1/3 in the rust belt states I mentioned, he is our next president.

Well I guess he shares Trump's penchant for using superlatives that make things untrue.

JD Vance doesn’t help expand the map. Trump knows exactly who Vance is. Don Jr is real close with Vance. Plenty of people changed their view on Trump. I think he is the best of the realistic options.

vance knows how to deal with the MSM and shut down their talking points...that's the only thing i like about him. but Daniels is just as good if not better than Vance in this skill. would've preferred him

The thinking is that he will work to appeal directly to voters in the Rust Belt swing states. Vance has beliefs and policy that is directly relatable there.

There is no such thing as "expanding the map" at this point in the cycle. The states up for grabs are what they are.

That was a thing 50 years ago before the perpetual election cycle. It isn't anymore.

1/2 of MAGA supporters were once Never Trumpers - if Trump thought that was such a big deal 9 fricking years ago then he wouldn’t have picked him

Exactly.

But, everyone will be changing their mind about him within the next few weeks. Guaranteed.

I agree with you, but 1/3 from the rust belt is what matters. All the others are lagniappe.

He is an American first populist. He doesn’t want more wars. This is all good.

Anyone recall reading the Constitution?

What does it say about the VP and the Senate? Vance tells Schumer if the Senate stays Democrat. “Get out of my seat old man”

Vance will run the Senate…….per Constitution…..

Trump is obviously willing to think more critically than you. I think he realizes than someone can change their mind; and he’s hoping more than just Vance does.
