re: Trump willing to end war without opening Hormuz Strait - WSJ

So, now Iran will own the strait and we have effectively achieved nothing long term. Iran will rebuild with Russia and China's help. We handed over control of the strait to Iran, wasted hundreds of billions of dollars in equipment (not to our troops' lives), guaranteed high gas prices for Americans for the foreseeable future leading to inflation, and burned whatever good will we had left in the world.
We sure have come a long way from regime change to save the people of Iran to cutting and running in just a few weeks. Disaster of a war never should have happened.

Still not sure those camel humpers can close that straight if we don’t want them to.
Not a good look. This is the first time I have to give Trump an L on a policy issue. This Iran war was ill conceived from the jump. No one wanted this shite except neocons and weapons contractors.

Except before they allowed everything through largely unabated Absolutely won't be the case now. We achieved nothing besides driving oil prices through the roof. Enjoy getting skull fricked by dems in November

Trump has nothing but bad choices. The least bad is declaring victory and ending it while he can.
Now he needs to tell Netanyahu to not even think about trying to get us deeper into this.
Make it crystal clear that once we are done, we are done and he's on his own.

Do you realize none of that has happened? Do you realize all this "talk" which has the purpose of exposing our supposed allies?
They (NATO) have not been spending on defense like they are obligated to.
They have not had our backs in this war.
Opening the strait is more important to them than it is to the USA.
Can you imagine the USA pulling out of NATO 3 months ago. Morons would have been outraged. Seems a lot more plausible now. Yall are losing your minds when it is nothing more than Trump exposing the weakness of our supposed allies. Trump has been telling them for ten years now. When they refuse to listen you just might want to bring them back in line and ignoring it isn't going to make that happen.
They get straight or face the consequences.

Take the L and come home.
Getting 1000 of our kids slaughtered would make things 20 times worse.

This would be crazy
This would be exactly what the MAGA cult contingent whose brainwashing by Huckster Carlson took big has been whining for:
1. Leaving the strait closed certainly isn't anything Israel wants.
2. It doesn't directly impact the US, and the rule all along has been we only are supposed to intervene in something when it directly impacts the US. If the impact is more than one linear move away, that doesn't count.
3. It would mean sticking to the timeline and absolutely avoiding a quagmire, which they have denied would happen like I deny that cubbies can participate in a thread without at some point intentionally mischaracterizing her opponent's position.
It's everything they have said all along they wanted.
Now they don't want that any more.
Color me shocked.

did Trump finally realize why he's the only President dumb enough to listen to Netanhayu's idea of attacking Iran
Netanhayu, Lindsey Graham and Levin played this guy
And hell still be glazing Levin, pushing in Bibis chair for him, and serenading Lindsey with Elton John songs over candlelight at Mar a Lago.
But if he withdraws without any invasion I will forgive him.

This would be crazy but better than another forever war.
Why would this be crazy? The US has met its objectives that he outlined at the outset. He told people outright that they planned on a 4-6 week operation. He had a public rift with Israel (as predicted by yours truly), and he is willing to walk away leaving Israel to go it alone (as I hope he will). After said public rift with Netanyahu, he declared that the US may walk away from it and since we don't have business in the strait, he would leave it to the countries that do do business there to police it because we are not interested in another forever war (much to the chagrin of you never Trump types who hope to be able to pin this on him).
What you are seeing play out is a carefully laid and followed plan. It is not crazy. They know exactly what they're doing.
And yes, it is much better than another forever war.

So, now Iran will own the strait
This is straight stupid. How are they going to own the Strait of Hormuz without a Navy?

If we leave the situation in the current state of affairs what could be the impact on the petro dollar? Its a mess in that region now and could get worse . Seems like a good time for China to come in there as the more stable partner for some of the gulf states.

Donnie is so inept he makes Bush and Cheney look like geniuses.

How are they controlling traffic now? The threat alone, along with some limited strikes has been successful for them so far .

Someone very smart who I trust says this is almost certainly a headfake and we're still going to invade.

Yes, but Europe is going to have to step in and do the job. And they have already said they will.
The US will walk away, Britain and France will take the lead on the Strait. And there won't be a damn thing Iran can do about it. Nor would they since they would now be dealing with business partners who didn't blow their shite up.
The best thing for the US to do is walk away. It's amazing to me people don't see this after complaining about forever wars for so long.
