The Trump administration is expected on Tuesday to announce rollbacks of wetland protections that were put in place during former President Obama's presidency, according to The New York Times.

quote:

Trump's new plan will keep protections in place for large bodies of water as well as rivers that run into them and wetlands that are adjacent to them. But it will roll back regulations for streams where water runs only during or after rainfall as well as for wetlands not adjacent to major bodies of water, according to the Times.

Good. There's a big area at the border of LA and MS, with lots of private property included, that currently can't be used because of a species of frog that doesn't live there.

I am all for it... Probably the biggest example of agency overreach I have ever seen...

Thank the Cheetoh Jesus in heaven for this one. The EPA and Army Corps of Engineers was using this to apply wetlands protection and force people to go through the mitigation process on pretty much every piece of land in South Louisiana, man-made ditches, low spots where water collects during a heavy rain, etc. Their definition of "Waters of the United States" was absolutely asinine, blatantly unconstitutional, and completely contrary to the definitions used by every other branch, and only used as a naked attempt to vastly exceed their Congressional grant of authority in order to intrude on state power and render private property rights meaningless.

Many are happy that they can now put fresh gravel to shore up the driveway at the fishing camp.

The government shouldn't be able to regulate my land because some rain fell on it.

It sounds as if Obama's rule was a federal overreach and Trump is undoing it.

Not only does it not live there hasn't been spotted there in over 50 years, but even if it tried to live there, the habitat could't possibly support said frog since it lacks many of the needed features to support that frog.

In the flip side, there's debate as to whether the Dusky Gopher Frog really is a distinct endangered species or if it's just a sub-species of a relatively common, unendangered animal.

Yeah, the fact that they can regulate the 2 ft wide ditch in your front yard is beyond ridiculous

What did the Obama regulations that are being rolled back accomplish?

It was basically a gigantic jurisdiction grab by the corps. Not only do they control the "waters of the US", but they control every area that may empty into those waters.

fricking over private property owners and expanding government control. That’s about it.

Someone explain to me how something that is only wet during or right after a rain needs to have the same protections as something like a river or lake.

By their definition, the backyard of my old house was a wetland because it was swampy during and after heavy rains, until either it drained or soaked into the ground.

obama's EPA was maddingly incompetent and crazed with regulation fever.
