It amazes me how short sighted people can be in regards to abuse of power when the end goal of the abuse I something they agree with. Did republicans forget about all the bull shite under 8 years of Obama orders?

I don’t think it’s good for our country that a president can do this unilaterally and without debate, creates too much executive power. This should go through congress.
Why? What US citizens does it affect?

Thats the point of open borders types. They don't want anything to get done. They just want to huff and puff back and forth.

Let the Supreme Court rule on the issue. The phrase of the 14th amendment can be interpreted quite differently.

I can’t believe he’s trying to do this but I’m slightly impressed even though it probably won’t work. Birthright citizenship is one of the dumbest things we have ever done.
What has SCOTUS said on this issue? Because that is where this is headed.

Scouts hasn’t ruled directly on the interpretation

So just to clarify...it's your position that the child of an illegal who is born and resides in the United States is not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States. They are under no obligation to follow US laws, since they are not under US jurisdiction. And you're saying someone else doesn't understand the Constitution.
You see. It’s not always a good idea to have so much hubris on a subject, when you are somewhat ignorant yourself.
Your laymen’s definition of “under the jurisdiction” is just that, and likely not applicable at all to the amendment. The Supreme Court Has stated that “jurisdiction is a word with many, too many, meanings”.
It is important to understand the meaning as applied to the 14th Amendment.
Your interpretation of “under the jurisdiction” is not that of the congress that passed the law. So perhaps slow down on the mocking other posters.

Literally the same justification Obama used for DACA.
By changing a Constitutional amendment? I don't support the president trying to circumvent the Constitution via EO, but I do support amending the former when it becomes necessary.

He can't. This is just Trump's way of setting the agenda and forcing an issue to public discussion. Clarification of the 14th through the courts via judicial oversight or legislative action from congress are required to end birthright citizenship.
True. But I wonder if all who claim BC from the date of issuance of Trump's EO, can be nullified from BC, IF the Courts ultimately find Trump's EO legit? Seems it will depend on the terminology of said EO, as such relates to Trump's authority re National Security.
A win for Border Security any way it goes.

“all persons born in the us and not subject to any foreign power...are declared citizens of the United States”.
hint: that means people who are citizens of other nations, and not ours. If a tourist from Japan comes here and is charged with a crime, they can go to their nation's embassy. They are still subjects of Japan. They are subjects of the jurisdiction of Japan, not the United States. The U.S. has reached treaties with Japan so that we can adjudicate crimes committed by Japanese citizens on our territory, but absent said agreement, we would have little authority to do so without provoking Japan to respond with force to recover their subject.

Trump is just trying to provide a distraction from the MAGAbomber, the Nazi who shot up the synagogue, and the racist who recently killed some blacks.
And he's trying to get his base worked up before election day. Looks like it is working.
