China has a lot of mouths to feed. They probably can absorb some tariffs on Ag imports but its still not going to hinder their consumption needs from U.S. Ag unless they have a replacement. That has always been China's struggle, keeping the masses fed. Without being fully fed the CCP is in danger of a revolution.

IDK, WTF does Trump mean?

US ag exports to China have already tapered off quite a bit, replaced by Brazil.

I asked Grok to decipher Trump's post:
quote:
Trump’s Truth Social post is a message directed at U.S. farmers, signaling a policy shift involving tariffs—taxes on imported goods—set to take effect on April 2, 2025. The phrase "tariffs will go on external product" means that imported agricultural goods (products entering the U.S. from other countries) will face these taxes, making them more expensive compared to domestically produced goods. By saying "get ready to start making a lot of agricultural product to be sold INSIDE of the United States," Trump is suggesting that this tariff policy will boost demand for U.S.-grown crops and livestock, as imported alternatives become costlier. The "have fun!" part is likely a casual, upbeat tone to rally enthusiasm, implying farmers will benefit from increased sales opportunities.
This aligns with Trump’s broader trade strategy, seen in his actions as of March 3, 2025—like the 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada and 10% on China, effective February 1, 2025. Posts on X and web reports indicate he’s pushing to protect U.S. industries, including agriculture, from foreign competition. The April 2 date could reflect a new phase or expansion of this policy, possibly tied to reports due from federal agencies by April 1, as noted in his January 20 "America First Trade Policy" memorandum. The intent is to incentivize domestic production by tilting the market in favor of American farmers, though it assumes they can ramp up output to meet demand.
In practice, this could mean higher profits for farmers if they can sell more at competitive prices, but it’s not without risks—retaliatory tariffs from countries like China, Canada, or Mexico could hit U.S. agricultural exports hard, as happened in 2018-2019 when China’s tariffs cost farmers $27 billion. The post doesn’t address these potential downsides, focusing instead on the upside for domestic sales. It’s a classic protectionist move, betting that shielding U.S. agriculture from "external" competition will strengthen the sector, though the real-world outcome depends on how global markets react.

BS. Food prices have risen the past 4 years because we have 15 million illegals to feed now
10 million of them are harvesting your food for CHEAP. Just wait until you have to get white boys out in the fields and see what happens to food prices.

Yeah, China better have a replacement somewhere or it won’t matter.
Ag is commodities. The tariffs don’t directly impact prices farmers get for their crop. It would only have an adverse impact if it caused demand for crops to fall, thus causing market prices to fall.
Will demand drop due to China? Maybe. We’ll see.
And anyone thinking Ag market prices are resulting in higher prices at the store need to go take a look at what market prices have been doing the last year or so. The market sucks for a lot of crops right now.

Ok, that makes a bit more sense than Trump's post!

Oh boy, this gonna be good
Posted on 3/3/25 at 1:21 pm to GeneralLee
I would assume the rationale is the taxes would get farmers to grow less produce that we mostly export and more of we use more of domestically
