Why couldn’t we just do this and not go to war in Iran?
the operation in Iran exposed the obvious changes in some NATO members and the need to proceed with change toward (some) NATO members.

we won't withdraw. And probably shouldn't

As we’ve come to know - at least some of us - this is likely more Art of the Deal shite from Trump. It’s been said a thousand times: Dude is a New Yorker who built a fortune by negotiating hard and talking shite to win. You can rarely take him literally. He’ll get more concessions from Europe on defense and trade and be on to the next thing.
I wish it wasn’t true, but that’s all this is.

"Didn't they just show how useless they are when it comes to us but scream bloody murder when they are in jeopardy?"
kinda. some did and some didn't.
just because they are little bitches doesn't mean we need to be.
"pulling out" is not practical.
making some major changes in logistics, participation and new/previous alliances is definitely possible.
Sometimes it's better to "stick in", change the things you control, get the little bitches to understand just how badly they've exposed themselves to danger, and still be "in" to have the "next step" conversations than to "pull out".
this is a bridge that doesn't need to be "burned". you just need to put some bacon grease on it, watch the pussies flop around for a bit, and then remind them who Daddy is.

NATO, besides keeping the lid on the USSR, has kept European countries from starting yet another was among themselves
This is what gets lost in these NATO discussions. Over 60 million people were killed in European wars in the last century. NATO keeps the peace in Europe as much as anything.

Congress might determine the treaty contract, but the President enforces it. If Trump says we will not meet article 5 obligations anymore they are screwed for as long as he is President.

and the nations negotiating with him don't recognize this grade school approach? he's a silver spoon rich guy, not some master negotiator

I feel like what's going to happen is Trump is going to tell this dude that he intends to pulls US troops off of all European bases since none of our NATO "allies" were willing to help the US deal with Iran. And he will leave it hanging like that. Then, in short order, we will see NATO "allies" have a change of heart about what role they should play in the Iranian situation moving forward.
Think about Britain for instance. Iran directly attacked British interests at least once during this ordeal and the Brits STILL didn't do shite to help the US.
What sort of obligation should we still have to these frickin pussies?

We should simply abandon bases in UK, France, and Spain. They are just socialist pussies anyway. Move the troops to our allies in Eastern Europe that still appreciate us and our presence.
Use the rest to continue the buildup in the Pacific against the real enemy.

NATO has been broken and unnecessary since the end of the Cold War. We didn’t need this bullshite in Iran to figure that out or to take action.

mostly agree with your analysis.
They better call us Daddy when this is all over, though......
In answer to your question above....... nothing but that won't stop the need for us to bail these f'ing pussies out AGAIN at some point, and it will be easier to "stay" there than it will be to "get there" again.
No where did I say that is right and proper. It's just reality. It's pretty much the same reality our whole country will face in 12-24 months after NYC frigs itsllf up good and proper with Momdani.

48 hours ago the US was the bad guy and Iran was the victim in the eyes of 40% of the country.
While I don't disagree with you, that's a bridge too far to sell to your average voter.

Something else too. I don't know how much truth is in it, but I saw a report that they captured an intact Iranian drone and discovered it was made with components from Europe. Which would mean our allies have been arming the Iranians. That report quickly went away and I heard no more about it after that, but if that is true then he actually would have grounds to remove the US from NATO all together.
I kinda doubt that happens, but it may be something to keep an eye on.
Pretty sure France, at the least, has been cutting back door deals with Iran since this began. Iran released French hostages and then allowed French oil to pass through the strait.
With friends like these, who needs enemies?

Other than the comfort of familiarity and because “it’s been this way for decades”, I haven’t seen anyone effectively yet make a case as to why it remains in the vital interests of the U.S. to stay tied at the belt with these European nations.
Maybe such a compelling case exists but I haven’t seen anyone speak to it.

Euros are becoming more and more socialist. Why should we remain aligned with socialist.
