This just doesn’t comport with all of the data. Saudi Arabi, for example, has at times pursued policies that were very damaging to America, and to my knowledge we didn’t target them for regime change. But the Saudis policies were objectionable on merely commercial greounds.

What "data" is needed? We've lived it.
SA is a client state of the US. Plus US leaders have always been tight with them -- Trump is no exception.
I can't recall which policies might have been "damaging" to America, but any policy "objections" we've had with them have been relatively minor. They buy MIC hardware and deal in USD, and we and Isreal buy their oil while protecting their royals. In turn they also kiss the Presidents arse on the big stage -- and all is good.

True
But here's another one:
Does Switzerland own both?

I’ve been living my life, doing better financially, come to this board and it’s like the world is on fire.
What has happened to this board. So much emotional overreaction.

I think you have to agree that something else is in play besides a desire to co-opt a country’s oil industry. Like Libya, Iran and Venezuela are our geo-political enemies.
It's possible it's a side deal. Lev Parnas said ( link to video, skip ahead to 12:30) that during Trump's first term, when Juan Guaido was trying to take power, Maduro was willing to pay 2 Billion (with a "B") barrels of oil, valued at the time at $71/barrel, to people close to the Administration for a soft landing. That deal was apparently squelched by John Bolton, but it's enough money that it would still be tempting.
If the recent events with Venezuela are intended to precipitate such a side deal, watch for an announcement that we are stepping up pressure on Venezuela tonight because of their various crimes, and then later a resolution of the tension allowing Maduro to escape to somewhere reasonable.

Eye Caramba! That would be hard for Mother Theresa to pass up.

Any deal is going to include Maduro getting a posh retirement. Why not? What do we gain by killing him? Unless he refuses to deal.
