He saying the only "buyer" is the government. If you don't sell it at their price, then you completely lose out in hat market

What?

Here's the more thorough explanation.

quote:

The state-run health systems in Norway and many other developed countries drive hard bargains with drug companies: setting price caps, demanding proof of new drugs’ value in comparison to existing ones and sometimes refusing to cover medicines they doubt are worth the cost.

The government systems also are the only large drug buyers in most of these countries, giving them substantial negotiating power. The U.S. market, by contrast, is highly fragmented, with bill payers ranging from employers to insurance companies to federal and state governments.

That makes sense. Thanks.

So the solution is for the U.S. government to buy drugs in bulk?

Or, allow U.S. citizens to buy prescription drugs from outside the U.S., which I understand is now illegal?

A lot of hot mid 20's sales reps are about to be out of work.

Can't slut your way to a pay check anymore.

What I don't understand is why does the ad for the erection drug show the couple sitting in two bathtubs?

And the fact that the women in the ads all look like they are in their thirties. Are men in their thirties and forties really having that much trouble getting a stiffy. I sure as hell didn't have that problem at that age.

Now when I reached 62, that's another story.

The pharma sales force is probably 20-30% of what it was 10 years ago.

If you are averse to a free market solution which would be much more painful, an easier solution might just be to mandate that no drug company can sell its drugs in the USA for more than it sells them in any other country. Fixes things in the short-term, absolutely kills R and D.

The part where he says drugs being held up by FDA that could help Patients with about 4 weeks to live, is going to be addressed. This is way too much common sense, I see why the left is losing their minds....

Im a lefty, love this, if you are dying, wtf would you give a shite about regulations at that point.

Another question, if Trump's remarks this morning are so threatening to "Big Pharma," why are Pfizer (PFE) and Bristol Myers (BMY) up substantially in the market now when the market as a whole is down?

Do drug manufacturers sell their product cheaper abroad?
Yes. And they sell cheaper in obscene ratios. The EU basically sets the price it will pay, and Pharma then shifts residual costs and pricing to the US market. It really is unbelievable. Medical equipment/devices work in an identical way.

This falls right in the Trump "America First" Wheelhouse.

HRC as NY Senator was approached by NY Pharmacy Retailers. Instead of solely obtaining drugs from US Wholesalers, to cut costs they wanted permission to purchase identical drugs from Canadian retailers AT CANADIAN RETAIL PRICES.

Clinton, to her credit, proposed legislation to that effect. It was shut down. Recently a nearly identical bill was proposed in the Senate. A majority of Repubs along with a substantial minority of Dems opposed it. Pharma is a huge lobby.

Any drugs in the FDA pipeline? Any in phase 3 studies? Any just pass phase 2?

Pharma stocks will increase as specific drugs work their way through trials.

By all means, try and overcome that awful "difficulty" and begin somewhere.

No. There's no news for either PFE or BMY this morning about successful new drugs or trials.

PFE announced earnings this morning and they missed the analysts' expectations.

How do we trick the drug manufacturers into selling enough drugs in Canada (roughly the population of California alone) for the pill-crazed US population of 10X as many people?

Let's start there and work our way backwards.
