Buy American and there is no tariff. The only person paying the tariff is the consumer, so buy another brand and that ‘American’ pays NO tariff.

Yale lab study released yesterday estimated $2,700 per family this year

They may be high but they are certainly closer than you.

I don't know that they're fricked worse than we are on any other tax, but the money isn't coming from nowhere.

Moving the goalposts.

The OP is celebrating that Bessent "admitted" that an American is writing the check for the tariff fees.

If we want to say they're not paying the tariff b/c the actual tax was paid elsewhere, then fine

No, it's not fine. It's the retarded logic of the OP. I just reversed it on him.

The true costs of tariffs is being paid by consumers only to a very minimal degree. That's what happened in Trump's first administration. It's what we are seeing now. It doesn't take a genius to understand how someone importing goods might demand the supplier pay...or might decide to eat some/all.

What's stopping you from buying American regardless of tariffs?

Probably not a lot of difference. We dont compete with low level mfg abroad.

We're the second leading exporter for a reason, higher value products.

Is this a new goal of the tariffs?

We're all in this together?

This is because the tariffs make the offshore production more expensive, correct? And now that the price point for the good will be higher they will pay the inflated American wages, correct?

I'll bet from head to toe you're not dressed in a single thing made in the US unless it's a small piece of jewelry. Your phone is imported, your keyboard is imported, your shoes are imported.

Bessent then said that the exporter could lower their price to retain market share.

The article left out Bessent’s follow-up to this which was something like, “And that’s what we’ve seen”.

Why did they leave this out?

True, but not in the manner you think.

Tariffs are an economic inefficiency. Period. Had you pushed that mental capacity far enough to include basic collegiate courses, you would already know.

Its literally govt usurping the market and putting a wedge between what people are willing to pay, and what govt wants consumers to pay

Statist.

Always exceptions BUT guarantee business would adjust if Americans stop buying.

Why do you hate America not being on a level playing field?
