No we haven’t. We’ve never gone after the cartels with physical violence before.

Why can't you do both?

You dont need to militarily crush the cartels, just destroy their market.

If you look back, this was discussed in Trumps first term to address the drug crisis.

And of course the MIC and swamp ridiculed him for even considering it. But there’s no other way to deal with the cartels. Mexico is impotent/weak.

The cartels are like a terrorist state operating just off the southern border. Hiding behind refugees to boot (just like Hamas).

These terrorists have never faced the wrath of the United States military.

I just talked with a mother who lost her son to these drugs.

They are killing our youth, our future.

Actually let’s give James K Polk the credit. He went a lot more than 100 miles too. To the Halls of Montezuma.

Killing cartel leaders just creates new cartel leaders and more violence while they sort it out. You want to crush the cartels forever you make 'em compete with Walmart.

All correct.

You'll never defeat the supply of drugs when the US demand is in the billions.

You don’t seem to be aware that the president of Mexico is under the control of, or at least operates in total fear of, the cartels

Politicians, judges, lawyers, corporations…. all are terrified of the cartels.

It’s the Medellin playbook…. and it isn’t limited to Mexico … it is here, among us.

It’s impossible to defeat the demand so attacking the supply is the only option. And the penalty for participating in the drug trade or even being associated with the cartels needs to be certain death. Others will pop up and you just keep killing them. Those at the top of the chain and at the bottom. We’re really good at killing people. Not so much at rehabilitating drug addicts.

We've fought the supply for 60 years, spent trillions and the market is more viable than ever.

According to economics, you'll never defeat drugs from the supply side. Synthetics changed the game.

But keep spending fruitless trillions on the war while protecting the cartels market.

Totally false.

We have cartels supplying dispensaries. They lower the price on the street. They make new combinations for the street... etc.

We have never had a war on drugs. We have had one on the users in the inner cities

Trump being stupid again. That’s called an invasion.

Just curious, what if anything could Mexico do if Trump followed through on his threat?

I would think not much, but maybe you or someone else in this thread has a better understanding than I do.

Not trolling you, but why would this not be appropriate if our response is measured?

Fentanyl is as bad as them invading and killing people.

If Mexico will not Crack down on them, the are complicit. They do not care how many Americans die.

We would not allow a nation to send soldiers into our streets and kill people.

This is no different.

Either step up to stop it or we will. Its our people they are killing

Well, there's a more recent example of getting stuck in Iraq with no exit plan.

It's going to be different from Iraq in that the enemy soldiers are already in the US. It's going to be painful, at least at the very beginning, until the point that the average American begins demanding:
