Great, so we’ve ensured that there will be a stable transfer to a government that will be friendly to both us and Israel?

Because the military campaign wasn’t the problem in Iraq and it won’t be here. The problem will be how to stabilize the country, and how is that going to happen without us being suckered in?

I don't believe Trump was saying the war itself is over, just that OUR PART of the war is almost over. Iran has launched nearly all of its ballistic missiles and drones that weren't destroyed, their navy is non-existent, their air force completely wiped out, and the Basij thugs on the ground have had their bases, leadership, and comms completely annihilated.

We have to make sure their enriched uranium is seized and ability to enrich more is ended for a very long time, but other than that we've completed most of the objectives set forth and it's time for the Iranian people to rise up and rid the rest on the ground now that the playing field has been closer to leveled for them.

That's not to mention that the IRGC and their leadership has pissed off and alienated their neighbors, who will also now chip in to make sure their power never rises again. Sure they can name a "new supreme leader" but if no one in the region or world is willing to recognize his legitimacy or work with him/the Islamic Republic - he has no power.

Trump has been in talks with Iran's Middle East neighbors throughout this process and has information we do not. If they - along with most of the rest of the world leaders - refuse to recognize Khemenei 2.0 as the new supreme leader it effectively ends his power right in its tracks. I fully believe this is essentially what has happened.

If Trump ends it with that regime still in power it will have been a failure and will absolutely hurt us in the long run.

Agree. We spent the money, lost 8 good people, used up a large amount of weapons and we are there. But they still can make more missiles. They still want to build and use nukes on Israel and us. The Arab neighbors are pissed at Iran. It's time to finish them off to the point of the good sane Iranians can take over.

Be a real leader Trump. Don't watch the poles. Do the right thing.

I've always posited the option that we do this and nothing changes long-term and the regime remains in place.

Hold on tight to your dreams.

Don't lie, now you hope for bad things to happen because being "right" on the internet trumps all else for you.

Just a few days ago we were being prepared for boots on the ground. It doesn’t add up to anything coherent because it is not actually explained.

Unconditional surrender?
US deciding who the next ruler is?
US Taking over the strait of Hormuz?

It’s frankly become a waste of time to react to the daily messaging and signaling. 24 hours from now could be a 180 degree turn to a different message.

A day after Iran names its new leader? The new leader will continue down the same path his dad did.

We could be waiting for the Iranians to rise up and take control of their country until the end of time given their lack of weapons.

The fact is that nothin is settled yet. So far the US has done it's job, but it's wait and see at this point.
And there was never a doubt that whatever way it ends, Trump was going to declare victory. Who cares what he posts to socila media? More and more people are starting to ignore most of what he says about anything because it's so predictable.

We need to completely eliminate the IRGC and leave their regular army in place and hope they’ll allow a government that’s more palatable to our interests be in charge.

That isn't going to happen without actual boots on the ground. The IRGC has spent several decades making themselves inseparable from the Iranian state itself. They control key sectors of the economy. Again, this isn't all that different from a country like Egypt in terms of the military's importance to the state. It's just that the IRGC is separated by even another layer between the regular military.
