I’m pretty certain that Trump already has a solid legacy …. even well before he became POTUS …… and one to be proud of.
Trump is executing a geopolitical strategy that has been in the planning stages for many years. It is an obtuse mistake to assume these actions are for personal reasons.
Judge others by what they do … not by what is said.

Trump went into Iran to counter China. Most US Presidents are hyper conservative when it comes to foreign conflicts…they typically don’t want to risk their legacy on difficult decisions. I would argue that Trump is more interested in confronting these issues head-on with the understanding that it could cost political points. I believe that the administration made the call to confront the growing problem of China by severing their energy supplies which in my opinion is the right move. I highly doubt that we will see the same continued growth of China now that they have to pay full price for oil/gas.
No one ever really wanted to confront Iran because of the threat that China and Russia would come to their aid and cause a global conflict. Well, Trump called their bluff.

I can buy the Kennedy Center, but Iran was too big of a risk. If his legacy was such a concern, there are better, easier ways to go about it. Iran is a huge gamble, and it's not like anything would change the opinion of the left-wing caretakers of history - academia and the press.
