Now, that is something everyone should be behind.

Ideally, Congress would take up the cause. An Executive Order would only be a bandaid.

100%.

institutions have ruined nashville & williamson county buying up all these homes and then renting them to poor people.

this doesn't stop me from owning a couple of properties and renting them out; this is aimed at the fricking WALMARTS aka massive corporations that can swoop in and buy dozens or hundreds of houses over market price in order to capitalize on them appreciating.

in turn, that drives up prices everywhere. nashville went from decent brick houses in a nice part of town for $200k to 800k+. ridiculous for those who didn't jump on the merry go round before this started.

eta i bought a starter home in nashville for $134k in 1997.

in 2017 it was worth about $200k.

today its valued at $440k on zillow and i guarantee if it hit the market it would go for 500+.

just a basic vinyl cape cod.

This impacts less than 20 companies across the US with the largest being Progress Residential which owned around 94k single family homes but has been disposing of these assets for the last couple of years given the real estate downturn.

As big of an advocate as I am of home ownership, this isn't the way. They should be regulated maybe but not an outright ban.

If a firm wants to build new SFH for rentals, how is that different than building apartments?

Also, if this happens many firms will get out of th business all together and dump inventory leading to large declines in value in those areas.

this would be a godsend for people living in nasvhille.

these frickers have bought up everything and housing prices are ooc here.

yes it would affect me as well but i'd rather my grown kids be able to buy starter homes which have been ridiculously out of reach for them.

see above - i'll post the property if interested, i was making $50k in 97 when i bought that house for 134k. my son is making almost 80k and he can't find anything he can afford right now.

Goooood! Home prices are so ridiculously inflated from decades of artificially low interest rates and bailouts from the government it has screwed the younger generations

Why ban what? Corporations buying single homes that are intended for individual property?

Next something also needs to be done about property taxes. I realize its a state issue and there's not much Trump or the federal government can do about it but its a massive problem depending on what state you're in. If you've lived in your house for like ten or more years and dont plan on selling any time soon, you've basically been hit with a massive unrealized gains tax over the past few years. Even if you you're lucky to be locked in with a low mortgage rate, they still get you with property tax increases.

This is another 70/30 80/20 issue

Dems and even the Reddit left bitch about this non stop…now they will have to take the anti-Trump side on it and look like complete idiots tying themselves into a pretzel

banning foreign citizens (or having a strict vetting process for non US passports) would be a good next step

Good move by Trump. This machiavellian concept of "free enterprise" is cannibalizing our country piece by piece.

Don't large most homebuilders own the house till they sell it. Also, a large NYC high-rise is full of single family residences. Does he mean single-family detached residents. How do you define that, devil is in the details.

So Trump says any corporation can't own more than 100 single-family homes. Democrat president gets elected and changes the limit to 5 or 10, I know there are people here who own multiple rental properties.

Slippy slope, when does it stop?
