His associate could have been an FBI co-worker. You're making inferences that fit your preferred outcome. The May 11 NYT article doesn't quote the memo as Trump's attorney claims.

my favorite is comey claims he no longer has possession of his own memos since he turned them over to mueller on his PC.
i wonder what juicy nuggets his email history on his computer will reveal?
i assume head of FBI is smart enough to cover his tracks but he did just admit to leaking it to his buddy.

I'm still not seeing your point. Comey didn't just write memos, he also spoke about his conversations with several other people at DoJ.
Now you can claim the LEAKED May 11th comments being entirely simpatico with the LEAKED memo is strictly coincidental, but the May 11 comments are what drove Trump's May 12th tweet.
For Comey to claim he leaked his memo in response to Trump's tweet, as if Trump's tweet was unsolicited is incredible -- as in not credible . . . at all.

Sure. I'd also expect that if someone admits to being the leaker of the memo, that there doesn't need to be 4 other people who leaked it.

If he meant something other than what he said, he should correct himself. It doesn't say much for his attention to detail (kind of important for a lawyer).

It makes perfect sense that Comey tells friends about the conversations. They go to the media about said conversations.
Trump makes passive aggressive tweet.
And the Comey says "You know what, frick that guy, I've got this shite written down" and then gives memo to his friend to give to media.
