Elon has said many times he is against the electric vehicle mandates, because they prop up his lower quality competitors. He believes Tesla can compete in the open market, while other E-car companies cannot.

NASA’s budget was cut repeatedly for decades and there was no push for either party to have them attempt what SpaceX is attempting.
If the will and the funding were there they absolutely could do everything spacex has done, and more.

Just so we’re clear.
Total OIL & GAS subsidies including externalities.. $646 billion per year. Of that being direct federal and state $20.5B per year.
Total EV subsidies per year (US only) $6.5B per year. Of which, $2B is direct consumer tax credits and $4.3B year is allocated through the inflation reduction act.
So let’s call a spade a spade.

Not sure how you people don't see the politics in Congress, particularly the Senate, and how it requires a less than ideal approach to implementing this administration's agenda.

Something tells me his opinion may have changed on that considering other EV producers are beginning to clean his clock in Europe and given the anti-Tesla movement here over the last few months.
