How is Alcatraz any worse than Rikers, Angola or any of the other bowels of hell prisons around the country. shite I live in south Ga and I’d probably rather go to Alcatraz than Smith State prison down here. The constant horror stories from there are unreal

IIRC, per treaty if Alcatraz stops serving as a prison it reverts to the Indians

And guess what the Indians want to do w/it? Just guess. I mean, take a WILD guess.

Alcatraz was closed because it was so expensive to operate and maintain. It’d be another symbolic gov’t boondoggle.

yep
alcatraz has been closed as a prison for 60 years and sits on some of the most expensive real estate on the planet, would be incredibly expensive to rebuild/refurbish. but doge! zero chance this happens
trump seems to be on an incoherent tear tonight

Imagine the cost of housing allowances alone, in commuting distances.

US criminals to Alcatraz

Foreign aliens to Gitmo or CECOT

Even if we are never able to scale it to what it needs to be, there is at least some justice in the circumstance for these frickers instead of the we didnt do nuffin nonsense of the past half decade

Isn't Alcatraz legendary because prisoners escaped? Seems like you could build a new prison that is more effective and efficient for less money.

Radical judges will keep letting them out!

The justice system is so awful, it will be hard to get the criminals punished like they should.

No. No attempts have ever been confirmed as successful, but the story of the three that made a raft out of raincoats is pretty famous, so maybe that's what you're thinking of.
