The snapper are so thick it’s nearly impossible to get to grouper.

And we have known it for years.
It had to be a play to zing FL in the eye.
The issue I have is if you tried to get grouper and pull up a snapper there’s a good chance the snapper died depending on depth.
Instead of being able to keep them you had to aerate them and hope they survive.

Yep. I will say that at least they had sense enough to broaden their population studies/counts; it just took the funding — which they got a few years back. They even discovered a previously undocumented biomass of them during that count/study.
That's how we are supposed to approach such issues, yet politics, red tape, and general foot dragging complicates it.
