President Donald Trump reportedly called former president Jimmy Carter to talk about China.

Emma Hurt, who works for NPR’s affiliate in Atlanta, reported on the call, which Carter talked about during his Sunday School class.

“In Sunday school this morning President Carter said he got a call from @realDonaldTrump last night, and they talked about China. Carter said Trump is rightly concerned that ‘China is getting ahead of us,'” Hurt wrote.

Our gracious, bipartisan president is looking for answers from all sides

He wanted to know what Jimmy would do, so he could do the opposite.

Do we really want to compare the bellicosity of China and the US?

I agree we need to stop with the bloody democracy-making, but Washington, Lee, Eisenhower weren't exactly Genghis Kahns. Lincoln, Grant, Sherman, Truman, and Johnson are the closest we have.

Good Trump for seeking advice from a predecessor, though I am unsure that Carter would have been my choice for doing so regarding foreign policy.

Don't forget...the swamp destroyed the economy for Carter because he wouldn't bow to TPTB.

Interesting choice. To me, this proves that Carter is the only living president that wasn't a total swamp creature.

Carter was a decent foreign policy president. He couldn’t negotiate his way out of a paper bag with Congress, and his indecisiveness on rescue missions is what doomed the hostage crisis, but he built up a good rapport with foreign leaders.

Watching Reagan speeches on YouTube would have been more helpful.

You have to give Carter credit for being a good hearted Christian man. Nothing else comes to mind, but do you do have to give him credit for that.

Jimmy, the dumb frick that he is, has gotten wiser with age.

This was a genius move by Trump.

Carter is what he is, but he did greenlight the hostage rescue mission, which was pretty fricking ballsy.

Carter definitely wasn't a swamper.

40 years later and the mere mention of the name Jimmy Carter still sends my dad into a profanity laced rant.

When the pollsters called on election night asking how my pops voted, his response was that he voted to send that peanut farming son of a bitch back to Georgia where he belonged.

You're going to miss all of this up. Now Jimmy Carter gives good advice cuz Trump wants it.

Yes, good on Trump for actually seeking advice. Carter is extremely knowledgeable about international affairs. His group has monitored elections and brokered development all over the world. He has been far more successful and impactful as an ex president than he was as president.

I don’t mind anyone seeking advice, but exactly which former president will give “good” advice?

He heard that Jimmy Carter shops at Dollar General a lot.
That makes him an expert on shite from China.
