It seems like this is the third time he's said he is not doing the debates and every time it solicits the same reaction.
Instead of being bummed that Trump is not going to be there look at it as an opportunity if you are a Vivek, Mike, Chris, Tim, Ron or Niki supporter. Without Trump on the debate stage there will be a lot more oxygen left for the other candidates to make their case.

Campaigning is all about promoting yourself. Selling yourself to the voters.
With Trump skipping the 1st debate and if speculation is correct, doing a play by play with Tucker the spot light is back on him and it marginalizes Fox News which I'm sure Tucker and Trump relish for different reasons.
He will be at the subsequent debates.
