Either The Trump administration is leaking information on purpose because of some other reason. Or someone needs to be hung from a rope for leaking and putting military lives at stake.

France lost 58 KIA in more than a decade of fighting there, but they largely kept the jihadis in check. Goita's ego made them bite off more than they could chew by kicking the French out.

I don't believe that's true. He would have likely been at Bucca by the time the beheadings in Mahmudiyah occurred.
Far be it for me as an Iraq vet who fought against those guys and saw the terrible things they did, but to be fair to al Shara'a, he pretty publicly and openly split with first the Islamic State then al Qaeda in the 2010's. Enough so that both have taken runs at assassinating him several times in recent years.

As for Mali, I'm against nation building. But killing jihadists where you find them with drones and air strikes and SOF is something I typically agree with, particularly where the countering entities (JNIM and/or Wagner) don't have a big card to play in response. If I start hearing a bunch of former SOF guys saying stuff like "we wanted no part of that op in Somalia, didn't know why we were there, etc." my mind may change. But I've never heard that re: the Africa ops.
