Where was the US ranked in education before the DE was established vs now. And I would rather have La kids reading the bible because at least they would know how to read.

The DoE used to be okay. But for the last three decades has started to suck.

You can do your own research, but here are simple points summarized from a few sites. DOE is not involved in determining curricula or educational standards.
DOE has four (4) key functions, none of which serve to educate or address illiteracy:
- Establishing policies on federal financial aid for education, and distributing and monitoring those funds.
- Collecting data on America's schools and disseminating research.
- Focusing national attention on key educational issues.
- Prohibiting discrimination and ensuring equal access to education.
According to its own site, the DOE does not participate in the following activities:

- set requirements for enrollment and graduation;
- determine state education standards; or
- develop or implement testing to measure whether states are meeting their education standards.
These are responsibilities handled by the various states….

Public education has tanked since the DOE’s inception. It’s an awful model to actually educate students.
By what metric can you demonstrate it was better pre-DOE?

Education was much better in statistics prior to it being run by the feds. While obviously poor states were the lowest in performances of outcomes they still tend to be in those rankings. Federal guidelines and teachers unions have decimated the opportunities for improvement

bs....education is gone now with that lunatic in charge. It isn't about learning anymore, unless you mean trans learning.

How dumb do you have to be to make this statement?
Unlike Biden, Trump actually recognizes that he isn’t a tyrant. He didn’t ignore Supreme Court decisions. He also recognized Congress as an equal branch.
News flash:
CONGRESS is responsible for the laws of the land.
Perhaps you should take a Civics class…or two.

I stopped reading here.
You are beyond moronic to think that these things happen in a vacuum.
Additionally, most states are under ridiculous burdens financially due to policies put forth by the DOE, especially as they relate to SPED.

I love the idea. Now let's get the states out of education as well.

The point I was addressing was specific to a comment about creation of the US DOE improving illiteracy and abolishing the DOE was a negative in the view of the poster. Nothing more, nothing less.

Again, my response and the information provided was specific to the comment about abolishing the DOE and posters concern that doing so would negatively impact the literacy rate.

Fair enough.
My point stands though.
The DOE has its fingerprints all over the state curriculum.

This is 100% correct. We waste tons of money on salaries for people whose entire job is centered around compliance. Get rid of the DOE and we don’t have to have these positions. They can get back into the schools and do the real work.

I would agree and support abolishing the DOE.
The point was specific to DOE illiteracy impact. The poster didn’t seem like a bad guy and so my post was intended to disagree with him instead of being overly disagreeable and talking to him like he lacked intellect.
