NEW YORK (Reuters) – Top CEOs say companies should put social responsibility above profit.

he group’s “statement of corporate purpose” was signed by the heads of more than 180 U.S. companies, including the CEOs of Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O), American Airlines (AAL.O), the largest airline in the world; and JPMorgan Chase & Co (JPM.N), the biggest American bank.

Although largely symbolic, the group’s statement goes against a roughly 30-year-old viewpoint that corporations exist to serve shareholders.

These companies don't give a shite about social issues, its just their rebranding effort to align themselves with the democrats to defeat Trump and other America-first political ideologies.

It's a giant game of economic chicken.

The Wall Street Multinationals realize that their model is threatened by Trump's America first, main street focused approach. They know trillions are at stake and therefore are working to defeat Trump and his allies. Hence why they are going all in on social issues.

Despite examples like Gillette losing billions, the reason these companies are doing this is to rebrand themselves. The Wall Street multinational big business interests and Democrats are in alignment now. Hence, the push toward WOKE SJW branding. They know they have trillions of dollars riding on defeating Trump, meaning they have to hitch their wagons to the Democrats social justice interests in order to work together with the democrats to accomplish the objective.

Multinationals, aligned with China, are trying to ride out Trump. They think they can last longer than him, and business goes back to usual once he is gone. They just want it to be in 2020 instead of 2024.

I'll believe them when they're not making millions per year in salary I guess.

So - create social programs making Americans dependent on the Fed Gov - all on the backs of major corporations who can just up and leave when they decide it’s too expensive.

What could go wrong?

Yea of course...don't want their name in the "anti social responsibility corner"...but no way in hell they actually believe it. Shareholders would out them immediately.

If I were a CEO, I would encourage my competitors to do this.

Usually, they like to mark 1981 and the Reagan presidency as the start of the greed era (guess they forgot it's not 2011).

I wrote an email to the author's article. He responded back. the conversation went as follows. As an aside, his last name is Benoit, so maybe he posts on tigerdroppings.

Me: I think that every CEO should have to read 1984

Him: most of them would probably say it's one of their favorite books

This is why nativist style conservative capitalism can never exist alongside corporatism and other international companies.

Businesses exist to make money. When they are large enough, they will employ and ultimately allocate business to other nations to gain more capital for their shareholders and increase their influence.

Your small town local company is only the endgame if the CEO or family choose for it to be so.

That's what this board doesn't understand. The United States, for all its benefits, is not the best country to find cheap labor or low cost services. These companies want to make shortcuts because in the US you have labor laws and actually are expected to treat employees with a certain level of respect for safety (oh my God the horror).

America first is a beautiful goal and a blessing. But the truth is that it's not sustainable.

They are just saying what the Left has conditioned them to say, or face being targeted by the propaganda wing of the Democrat Party - the Media.

You’d say the same thing if you were a CEO.

Not necessarily. Even the blueist of CEOs cringe at the very real possibility Warren could be the Dem nominee.
