Tony Timpa suffered the same fate as George Floyd — but received none of the attention

National Review
quote:
Tony Timpa was 32 years old when he died in custody of Dallas police officers in August 2016. Like Floyd, Tony Timpa was pinned face down to the ground, though Timpa was pinned for more than 14 minutes with an officer’s knee in the center of his back, not near his neck.
He was suffering from a mental-health breakdown, and he had called 911 asking for help.
There was no national uproar after Timpa’s death. No national cries for justice and reform. The city of Dallas paid no settlement to Timpa’s family. A grand jury indicted three of the Dallas officers on misdemeanor deadly conduct charges, but the district attorney dismissed them. The civil case is on appeal after the judge granted summary judgement to the defense.

Kid in the back throwing up a racist symbol.

Huge mistake

The double standard here is what kills me. BLM took a legitimate issue and took it as their own.

Never heard of him til now. Anyway for whatever reason there was no national outcry associated with his death.

IIRC Timpa was actually off his meds. A technical difference only.
This event is why I've always said had BLM pushed the George Floyd issue as simply police abuse instead of racism they would have garnered far better support (well, that and the whole don't-burn-and-loot-shite thing).

Double post but worth repeating

I don't know why it isn't just as big of deal when the cops murder a white person.

To counter your argument. What is stopping you from demanding an explanation for Tony's murder? Organize a protest.

Until now, I was wholly unaware of his death.
That’s kind of the point.

Daniel Shaver is worse. My heart hurt watching that.

You know the reason for this

You know the reason for this too
And right now it is the current shining example of how the left and the media flipped "racism" completely on its head to create the bizzaro alternate universe of the 1960s

Cops will kill you no matter what you look like.

Go watch the video of his death.

Timpa was probably schizophrenic or bi-polar. Hard to tell which just from the video, but both conditions can lead to psychosis. Timpa appeared psychotic to me, but harmless. The poor guy needed a good shot of Haldol in the buttocks and then taken to the hospital. He shouldn't have ended up dead, period.
All that said, I do not think the Cops intended to kill him, but they were being unprofessional with their constant poking fun at him.
