The YouTube rabbit hole brought me to clips of a debate between Ben Shapiro and Crazy Cenk in 2017 Ben brought up how Buddy Roemer invested in TYT. Other than his name in Louisiana history class in the list of governors the only thing I really remember about Roemer was his failed attempt at the Republican nomination for President in 2012. To older PB posters, did he have liberal tendencies when he was governor? Was helping start this an FU to Republican Party because he thought he should have done better (secured more sweet, sweet campaign money) in 2012, or just a businessman making a financial move?

Regardless, to Buddy for allowing us to witness some of the greatest political melts in recent history

That sounds very strange. Buddy was a fiscal conservative, and by national standards, a social conservative as well.

No telling what Buddy got up to decades after his political career ended, though.

IIRC like so many defeated politicians, his first stop after being on the gubmnt (sic) payroll was to go to Massachusetts and "work" at Harvard as some sort of visiting professor.

The Young Turks.

If you haven't seen it yet, and I don't know how that's possible, you've got to see their slow meltdown on election night 2016.

I thought it sounded strange too, but I Googled it and there’s several articles confirming the investment company Buddy owns/leads (led/owned) did invest in TYT. A TYT video with Cenk talking about Buddy investing is out there too. Only watched the first minute or so to make sure it was real, I’ll finish it later. Even if it was just a money move, talk about strange bedfellows.

Buddy is a really nice guy who has had long term medical problems which have gotten worse. Likely had some emotional issues at the end of his time as governor.

His background is as a banker and commodities (plastics and chemicals) trading, both he has been quite successful in.

What his goal, with TYT, was to blow up the system which he saw as rigged. Trump did and is doing that for him.

Yeah, very nice guy. I see him every now and then through work and he's always happy to talk to people.

Well, goal wise, I can’t fault him a bit

Why the hell can't you just write out TYT one time before you abbreviate it. I hate that.

All I remember from his tenure as governor was the word “budget cuts” and “scrub the budget”. He was a former Democrat, then became a Republican when he ran for governor.

The book "Bad Bet on the Bayou" described him as a quiet guy who liked to sit in his office in the governor's mansion reading books instead of going out and playing politics. He lost his reelection to EWE who was loaded with cash from various sources including casino investors, so it makes sense that he would back something he saw as an attempt to reduce the influence of money in politics.

Also, in my personal opinion, the Young Turks was more independent and less overtly Democrat in the early days. The article about Roemer's investment was from 2014, before Trump Derangement Syndrome.

He didn’t get along well with the state politicians at the time. He really rubbed both Dems and Repubs the wrong way, iirc.

Cenk Uygur, a founder of TYT news outlet, was the key figure in getting AOC and her cohorts elected in 2018. Uygur is as far left as you can get.

Hard for me to understand how Roemer could have a 30 second conversation with Uygur... let alone fund Uygur's media outlet.

Cenk isn’t really principled. He’s not driven by political beliefs but by ego. His own politics have drastically changed and will probably continue to change by the day.

In 2014, I don’t think Cenk was in the Bernie Sanders wing of the party, but I could be wrong.

It could be an act and about money, but part of the reason Cenk is in the insane Bernie wing now is he thinks moderate stances won't win elections. Don't think I agree with him there, but if he truly thinks that, have fun.
