If they were smart, they'd let the border issue go and really try to appeal to the Hispanics.

The GOP letting the border issue go would mean opening the flood gates to out of control immigration and breaking the welfare state to an unsustainable state.

Rand Paul could do the same outreach that he's done with blacks, Asians, and other minorities with the Hispanics and it wouldn't work because he recognizes that letting the border issue go the way dems and crony republicans want is not realistic at all and so dangerous. Hispanics see that as an attack on their race and as like they're not welcome in this country. That's a huge emotional appeal dems are so good at making.

But anyway, this is all a moot point as the GOP and big business wants immigration with the cheap labor they can exploit with tired, hungry and desperate people.

He is working - I applaud him for that.
He is trying to do something for his family - I applaud him for that.
He is sending much of his earnings back to his extended family in Latin America - I applaud him for that (though remittance does hurt our economy and is a big reason why Mexico has no desire to resolve illegal immigration).

He is using local resources that he is not paying for (schools, hospitals, roads, etc). No - I draw the line there.

Give him a workers visa. Require him to pay local and federal taxes. Stop using him as a pawn and making him an invisible member of our society.

BHP, it seems that there has been a transcendence of descriptions of people, as in, illegals now being depicted as migrant workers of years past.

But I can't help think of the huge socialist bent of so many Latin American countries that would make a Republican alliance more fantasy than real possibility.

This.

These immigrants aren't necessarily free market and small gov't conservatives as far as the fiscal approach goes. It's like liberals moving from California to Texas away from the oppressive economic policies they voted for and then vote for those same policies in Texas.

Interesting how quickly we forget this nation was built by illegal immigration.

It was built on immigration. America was built a long time ago. It doesn't RUN on illegal immigrants.

Go visit Ellis Island. See how they used to screen the hell out of people and how many were turned away for health reasons. It was way more strict and structured than you are insinuating.

Lib-progs leave this part out. People were turned away if they were unhealthy, and if they could not show how they were going to be of some benefit.
We welcomed immigrants, yes, but we did it carefully.
We also didn't given them ( and their several offspring) generous welfare benefits as soon as they arrived.

We should have an adoption drive for these kids. Small background check and then free to good home.

Or even better, legalize gay marriage at the federal level tomorrow with the requirement that you have to adopt at least one of these kids.

Most legal hispanic immigrants I know are fine with closing the border. They hate illegals because they had to go through the legal process.

Making the legalization process more streamlined and securing the borders is an attractive stance for Hispanics. Show that you want them here, but also show that you have to enforce the law.

I realize that now. Sometimes I just get too pissed off at liberal "logic" and need to vent. I do feel sorry for them. Not enough to just let em in however.

You realize this was right next to Ellis Island, right? The very place where people were registered, checked for diseases and quarantined if necessary. Maybe that slipped your mind.
