Christian school I coach at has armed faculty. And extensive I training.
This thread is about grant money denied.

I say no, but if they are going to do it against my wishes why do it for one group of kids and not others?

I hate to agree with Walz on this, but the Catholic Church is LOADED and doesn't pay taxes. They could've paid for their own security rather than trying to put it on the taxpayers.

I could claim to be an astronaut and it wouldn’t matter. I still wouldn’t favor public money being used to pay the overhead for private organizations.

In what ways does the government fund private security for private organizations?

It is a private or independent school. You can't declare you're independent from school boards and other government oversight and expect to get the same help as public schools. That's kind of in the deal.

Specifically which ones? It would help to link them because I am accused of holding the most random unsubstantiated beliefs here. You are desperately wishing for me to support every single government expenditure under the sun. Why? It’s like you’re offended that I don’t.

couldn't wait 24 hours to start fuming about Catholic children receiving the same taxpayer-funded law enforcement protection that children in public schools get?
You’re the one fuming, friend. I calmly stated my big government liberal progressive position that tax payers should not be on the hook for the overhead of private organizations.
quote:. What? I support private organizations paying for their own security if they deem it necessary. I’m not trying to stand in the way of that.
That said, glad we've established that your absolute threshold for protecting the lives of children, is not equal protection or risk or tax skin in the game, but whether or not their parents sent them to Government schools or not

I look forward to watching you attempt to play this out to its logical conclusion in your head.
Should the state provide security at movie theaters? Malls? Retail stores? Daycares? Where do you draw the line?

It pains me to agree with Walz or cubbies but I do agree that private schools, churches, mosques, synagogues, gurdwaras, etc should fund their own private security. Police should be patrolling the public streets around the schools as part of general public safety. If they are wanting a dedicated SRO though, they should pay for that. My church pays for multiple police officers, in uniform with marked vehicles, to direct traffic every weekend. Our taxes pay for general police services, but we have to pay extra for extra officers to help manage the cluster that we create every Sunday, as we should.
Even public schools in Texas have to fund their own SROs or work out a sharing agreement with their local PD. Texas legislature passed a law in 2023 requiring all schools to have armed security on the premises, but they didn't actually provide any funding for that mandate, so most schools still do not have one.

Is your position that private entities can't get grants?

Maybe you can ask the government to provide you armed security against my posts. For the children.

The government provides security at public schools, afaik. Parents are able to enroll their kids in those public schools.
