This is why social media is such a cesspool. Thirty to forty years ago if Johnny Carson had said the same thing, it would have elicited the same responses but they are from such a small minority that no one cared.
Now, even though it's likely the same small amount of people, their opinions get amplified by media outlets with sympathetic slants. It creates the false narrative that the response is part of some massive, grassroots movement of some sort of otherwise silent majority.
It's bullshite.
