Why can't he? He has said he was going to if the Congress doesn't get it passed.

If it gets struck down, are you going to call the judge an activist?

It will obviously be fast tracked to SCOTUS. Everyone should be able to see this coming. Ray Charles can see it coming.

There has to be at least 5 who have the balls to do it.

Funny. It would have been the same outcome for the SAVE Act if the dems had control of the Senate.

Makes you wonder…

But if it’s something he could do via EO all along, why did he need Congress?

BoarEd says Trump can sign an EO to do the same thing as the SAVE Act. I asked why he pitty-pattied with Congress for a year if that’s the case.

I also asked that if/when the EO gets struck down if he’s going to call the judge an activist.

I know where I land here but I would like to hear Ed before I deliver my judgement.

I’m not Ed, but the reason is to codify it in law rather than an EO that will be struck down by a judge and thrown to the courts. We have a majority in congress but for some reason our party doesn’t want to pass it and it was explicitly a campaign item Trump ran on to secure American elections. It’s mind blowing that people are against voter id after the last two presidential elections.

Because it has to emanate in Congress. The President can’t just EO whatever he wants.

That’s a political issue the President needs to solve via political channels, not trying to end-around the Constitution via EO.

Sending it to the SCOTUS isn't necessarily a bad call. The 14th, 15th, 19th, 24th, and 26th amendments all discuss citizens having the right to vote. Having the highest court in the land weigh in on what that entails insofar as making sure only citizens vote isn't a bad idea. Although obviously, it would be ideal if the Congress would do their frickin job and codify it.

But again, Trump has already said that if they won't do it, he will. Folks like Boosie can bitch and moan about it, or try to turn it into an argument, but it's frickin pointless. It's happening whether his bitch arse likes it or not.

I think they’d fight that it’s the states rights since that’s been the argument. I would like to get it clarified that federal elections should be under the purview of the federal government. They also need to sort out the timing of results as California is beyond ridiculous.

It would be the first time the left has ever argued for state's rights that I'm aware of. And again, it doesn't matter. This is the route Trump said he will go if the Congress doesn't pass it. I'm ready for the rubber to meet the road. Let's put the cards on the table.
