This NOLA Restaurant thing has me thinking

I wouldn't have expected a "Bake Sale for Abortion" in San Francisco or NYC. It got me thinking - has Southern culture changed so much? This is the kind of thing that 5 years ago may have been brought up at a conference table, but would have been shot down as "We cannot do that here."
The culture of the South is changing. Professional culture is becoming as woke in Charlotte and Atlanta as Boston or Seattle. As more conservative young people go to college and become professionals in places like NOLA, Nashville, Fort Worth, Oklahoma City, etc they are becoming more progressive.

Not so much as New Orleans is a liberal haven.

The virus has spread and the infection is here.

Southern cities, in their growth, have absorbed people from all over the country, and as a consequence, have lost their "Southerness" to an extent.
Real Southern culture that is outside of metropolitan areas hasn't changed much at all.

Big cities are always blue. Unfortunately, people flee blue states and congregate in these large cities which then change the environment of the surrounding red areas because they have more political sway via larger population numbers.

"Bake Sale for Abortion" sounds like something straight from the Onion or Mr Show or some other absurd sketch show

While New Orleans is a liberal haven, this shite is not confined to New Orleans. It's definitely spreading.
It's not a West Coast, Midwest, South, Northeast thing anymore. It's increasingly becoming rural vs. urban as the cancer spreads to all the urban centers in all regions.

First off I love New Orleans and spend a good bit of time there.
The answer to your question is answered by other questions.
Is New Orleans filthy?
Has it ruined the chance it had to clean up after Katrina?
Did they pull down statues in order to virtue signal?
The average level of education might be grade school in the city itself. It’s really a shithole. If not for the Saints, my times of being there would be reserved to a day time Mardi Gras every 5 years with the family.
Of course it’s gotten that way. The people that actually live in the city are freakier than any place in California.

NOLA's culture has been one of do as you please. It has however moved ever so quickly to the far left, given that a majority of the hipsters are from the west and east coast.
As more of these hipsters get priced out of larger GMAs and move to cheaper southern cities, one can only expect this mental virus to spread.

This was sort of at the heart of my whole issue with the statue thing here. I can't say I ever really gave two shits about the presence of confederate general statues in New Orleans until the whole brew ha ha started (meaning the fact that they were actually CONFEDERATE statues). I mean, I guess, part of me thought they were nice old vestiges of a time long before I was born (and hell, before a good number of my ancestors ever set foot in this land), as so much else in the city is, but beyond that, I never gave them a thought.
The whole movement to remove them sort of got me thinking, however, how instead of being an interesting different sort of place (yes, liberal leaning in a lot of ways) that was also SOUTHERN, there appeared to now be a movement now afloat to make it simply another indistinguishable part 'Progressive Everywhere USA', which sort of seemed a bit sad to me.
I guess this is just sort of another facet of that.
Oh, well Forward we go.

One problem is that to liberals, politics is their religion, and they're worse that Westboro Baptist when it comes to getting in your face about it. Nearly all universities and professors are liberal-leaning at best and many students are just nutcases. All it takes is an otherwise conservative kid who doesn't fully understand his beliefs to befriend one of these nutjobs and they're flipped like a switch.
I've seen it happen to way too many people. Especially those who leave to go to liberal bastions like UVA or UNC and are basically told if you're a conservative, you're scum.
I have seen so many kids fall victim to this. At their core, they're conservative, but whether it's due to ignorance or social pressures, they begin to morph into a SJW. Conservatives are not in-your-face types, so it rarely goes the other direction.
