President Trump's central claim about his economic policies officially crashed into reality today.

Throughout the 2016 campaign and since, the president and his party have vowed to kick-start tepid Obama-era economic growth. Specifically, they insisted tax-cuts and deregulation would return growth to its post-World War II average of 3 percent – a level, candidate Trump said derisively, that Obama became "the first president in modern history" never to reach in a single year.

New government data this morning show that Trump, too, has failed to reach the 3 percent promised land, according to one major metric. The Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis measured 2018 growth at 2.9 percent, matching the peak Obama enjoyed in 2015.

So Trump’s goal of 3% “crashed into reality” because he only hit 2.9%? That’s the standard we’re using for “crashed” now?

It’s no longer disappointing that left-wing sites write disingenuous articles about Trump. But it’s disappointing that a “conservative” makes those articles his headlines.

If Obama was an economic failure for not achieving 3% annual GDP. Wouldn't that mean Trump is an economic failure, too? This has been the right wing talking point.

If Trump supporters were smart(they aren't), they would've waited until Trump actually surpassed 3% gdp before saying Obama was a failure for not doing so.

A prime example of what we call "nitpicking".

Answer honestly. If a Democrat said "we're gonna hit 3%" at their campaign rallies, and then hit 2.9% in their 2nd year, would the John Harwoods of the world be using language like "crashed into reality"?

Trump promised 4.5 and repeatedly said Obama was an economic failure for not achieving 3%

I haven't been keeping up with Drudge for a couple of years now.

He used to just post links to what is available out in the internet universe - has he sifted from that plan??

Is he now squelching conservative sites?? and just posting radical leftists drivel??

The central question in this thread is why is Drudge linking John Harwood? How is he still employed? How is he allowed to moderate debates?

quote:

The following question was asked on Sept. 21, 2015, via email, to the chairman of a major presidential campaign, John Podesta: “What should I ask Jeb?” At the time, Jeb Bush was still a leading candidate to challenge Hillary Clinton for the White House — and had more money behind him. The question didn’t come from a campaign surrogate or an opinion host — it came from the chief Washington correspondent at CNBC, John Harwood.

Bottom line: you aren't going to find a gay journalist that is going to give you the truth about reality.

Obama had 8 years. Trump has matched it under 2.

Obama GDP:
2009 -2.5%
2010 2.6%
2011 1.6%
2012 2.2%
2013 1.8%
2014 2.5%
2015 2.9% CLOSSSEEEEEE
2016 1.6%

TRUMP GDP

2017 2.2%
2018 2.9% CLOSSSEEEEEE

I was an Economics professor for close to 20 years. I have never seen a shittier economy than under the Obama Administration. It was as if he was actively trying to frick our economy and guess what? It worked.

ETA: I wouldn't call Obama's GDP "horrendous" but they weren't good. His policies didn't promote economic growth IN THIS COUNTRY. I consider any GDP that is positive a good thing so at least he didn't completely tank it.

ETA2: The only economy worse was after WWII. That's saying a lot.
