I'm CERTAIN that he wasn't. Even if his supervisors had a spine (Broward Co.-yeah right), he has a union that has doggedly defended much worse

The number to that sheriff's department is (954) 764-4357.
Citizens from all over should be calling and expressing our disgust.... my wife and I have a winter home down there near our daughter's place. I was told that their phones are blowing up.
That yankee cop (and they have lots of them down there) should suffer serious repercussions imho.
ETA: I was told that the incident happened in December of 2024 (makes sense given the kid's sweatshirt) and that we may glean any information about disciplinary actions handed-down by going to Sheriffs.org and requesting a copy of the after action report under FOIA. They've received a lot of calls this morning.

Someone on the force? Damn near everybody on the force will defend him against outside criticism. They may think he's a dick, they may not like how he goes about his job, but he's a "brother officer" and that's all that matters.

I make this point all the time. The police are constantly telling us how dangerous traffic stops are supposed to be. But their actions tell me that they don't actually believe that bullshite. Because if it was really so damn dangerous and your typical police officer would do everything in their power to avoid creating conflict during the traffic stop. Why would you want to increase the likelihood of danger for something you already think is dangerous?

Imagine if these kids weren’t literally the least-targeted or negatively-stereotyped people in the country. This cop won’t be held accountable, but certainly should.

Well, this post to the Broward's County FB page uploaded just seven hours before the video above was released ... it didn't age well.
The comments are ... lol, glorious.

Not all local cops are bad. Most are just high school /community college graduates without much a future trying to make it by and serve their community.

Cops can be dumbasses in many situations including this one. Never once motioned for these kids to stop.

You're right lots of great ones. This guy isn't one of those.
He saw some kids that he wanted to bully and that's exactly what he did here.

There are lots of cops that are cops solely because they like the power trip. They were bullied in high school or whatever and to get that power back they become cops and bully whomever they think they can. Pretty sure that's exactly what's happening in this situation.

It has become readily apparent that the level AND TYPE of training cops are receiving is complete an utter shite nationwide.
1. They're trained THEIR safety is paramount. No it is NOT mother fricker. I didn't ask to interact with you. If you've initiated contact with me, MY safety is paramount Mr. Government Agent.
2. Near as I can tell, you'll get more consistent answers on what's in the Bill of Right and WHAT IT MEANS from the smart kids in 8th grade Social Studies than from pretty much any cop.
3. They ALL seem to think they are "on a side". I'm like, which side is that mother fricker?
While I'm sure there are many "well meaning" cops, most of them seems to have almost no idea what the law ACTUALLY SAYS and pretty much enforce what they "think" is law. And why not? There's virtually zero penalty to them for being wrong.

I forget where I read this, so TIFWIW. But there’s low correlation between police improper use of force and training budgets.
The best way to limit police overreach is to remove their primary role as revenue collectors for the local government. That involves starving your local government. Which is usually a valid and noble goal.

Doesn't surprise me because frankly, I've actually watched video of official training that is available and it's fricking absurd. AT BEST, it's nonsense. At worst, it ENCOURAGES bad behavior.

Absolutely. The damned government shouldn't have a FINANCIAL INCENTIVE to frick with it's citizens.
I'm an advocate of abolshing traffic fines. I would replace them with a pure points system. You could still lose your license for bad driving. You could even acrue enough points to receive a fine. But, individual stops would no longer guarantee revenue. MOREOVER< the practice in many places of localities keeping most of the revenue from stops MUST DIE!!! Towns of 3000 people with 10 cops because they happen to touch a road they can catch speeders on is stupid.
