They were called to the hotel for a man with a gun pointing it out the window. When he began crawling, they had already told him to show his hands, he clearly reached towards his pocket and waist band and got shot. Maybe they could have used a taser, but I'm not second guessing the officer. He leaves his house every night wanting to get home to his family as well. Most of us never have to worry every day that we might get killed doing our jobs. The guy was drunk waiving guns out a motel window at patrons..The old saying play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

The guy didn’t have a gun. So he wasn’t “waving a gun out a motel window.”

This gentlemanly police officer shot the man with his personal AR-15 that had a stencil on the side that said “You’re fricked.” He should’ve never been a police officer. You can tell that just from listening to two minutes of the tape.

This is awful, but statistically you're almost twice as likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer as a man than be dead by cop.

Just to put this in perspective.

I cannot believe we have enough people willing to defend this murderer cop that this thread is 11 pages.

The poor schmoe was just trying to keep his pants from coming off after having to crawl on the floor for the psycho police officer. The psycho had every intention of shooting the victim. He just wanted something for the body cam.

Lesson learned: If faced with a similar situation, I'm going spread eagle and "passing out."

The shooter engaged in flawed thinking.
Where is evidence that either the cop or his department have come to such a conclusion? It is my understanding they have done just the opposite. My understanding is they claim they'd do the exact same thing again.

Meaning ANY innocent human who cannot physically comply with crawling, can (will) be legally executed on the spot.

This cop would probably still murder you for "failing to comply" and the same people would be in the thread saying you should have followed orders.

Just watched the video. Unbelievable.

That poor fool was so scared he probably shite himself. Clearly not violent, belligerent, or anything.

If you can get shot in that situation, none of us are safe. You issue enough commands, eventually something will go wrong. Esp if the guy had a few drinks. Which we know he did.

Damn shame.

Looks like his shorts where coming down as he was crawling and it was an involuntary reaction to pull them up. I probably would have done the same thing.

That should have been handled much better. So many different ways to do it. I get there was a gun threat but it's as easy as them spread out hands and legs and walking over and cuffing with gun drawn. Making him crawl makes zero sense.

I don't understand why the cops didn't just walk up there while he was face down, and cuff the guy. Instead the cop was just looking for an opportunity to use his weapon imo.

I can only think they wanted them away from the door, which is legit.

But damn slow down on all the contortion talk. Hands on head Turn around and back to me. How goddamn hard is that.

Lay down hand out hand in head cross kegs right over left place hands on ground push up get on knees hands up crawl all while screaming. I just left a convenience store, I had my hunting rifle laying on clothes in the front seat. All legal, I hate to think some paranoid goofball calls in me as a threat.

I could get shot because I can’t bakance a spinning plate or something.

There went any credibility you might have had. You're just another liar at this point.

I am.

The main problem is they didn't know if there were more people in the hotel room so they couldn't advance until both suspects were restrained.

His partner(s) had one suspect cuffed and under control and he had the other lying in a completely defenseless, prone position.

At the very least this means he had backup with him. At that point it should have been him watching the doorway while his partner ordered the remaining suspect forward while having a tazer drawn on him.

I haven't looked at this case but did either of the suspects have a firearm at all?

Cop was looking for a reason to kill him. He escalated the situation from the get go.

"If you fall, fall on your face or were gonna shoot you." It's a fricking ingrained reaction to put your hands down when youre falling.

"Cross your legs and crawl toward me"

At that point you're waddling on your knees. How many people can pull that off sober, much less drunk, crying and with 4 ARs pointed at you with a guy screaming he'll kill you.

The suspect is down and cooperative. They had every opportunity to move in on him. Or like most departments, they could have had him stand and walk backwards with his hands behind his head. Instead, this murderer created a situation where there was going to be no fluid movements for thr suspect and nearly guaranteed he was going to stumble and make a quick movement that startled a trigger happy cop.

I completely agree with you. He reminded me of someone with "little man syndrome. That was murder.

These cops obviously weren’t trained. Otherwise they wouldn’t have shot that guy. This was a very simple situation. Like, really fricking simple.

Never happened. Though Robb keeps suggesting it, the window was unopened. The 3 were inside their room.

Completely irrelevant. All that matters is what the police officers thought they were walking into. As far as we can tell, they were called to a hotel where a "gun" was being pointed out a window. That's all they knew. What they learned after the fact is not relevant.

But again, that cop should be in prison. They had ample opportunity to secure this 'suspect' or even just let him lay on his stomach - instead he amplified the situation and a drunk guy reach to keep his arse from showing, and got murdered. Terrible situation...both parties contributed to the outcome but it did not nearly approach "take down" scenario.

Cops get fired and hired by another jurisdiction all the time. Their unions make sure that the original employer only confirms date and title.
