The cop knew he was going by the book. He also knew that the kid was unlikely to carry out his bizzare commands in a pressure cooker situation without screwing up. He saw an opportunity for a free kill and he took it, simple as that.

The fact that some anonymous stranger claimed to have seen a gun means NOTHING. Do people not see how fricking dangerous this is? Is it really OK for anyone to just say the magic words and get a fricking short-dicked pig to go execute someone for you with no investigation or trial? No. That is not OK.

So what I gather is if somebody claims I have a gun then I'm going to get some Navy Seal wannabes with automatic weapons that will make me do some insane choreography while my heart is beating 300 times a minute, and if I slip then I get my head blown off. Hell maybe I should start kneeling too. "Vigilante Justice" is always seen as a bad thing but frick it, I hope somebody from that kid's family finds that prick cop and puts 5 in him.

No, that is not what it means.

if highschool dropouts country wide can handle it.. i'm pretty sure i could

How exactly is asking someone to crawl towards you with 4 rifles pointing at him and at the same time yelling he was going to kill him if he screwed up “going by the book?”

Cops get fired and hired by another jurisdiction all the time. Their unions make sure that the original employer only confirms date and title.
The new departments can’t google the applicant?

Did he have a gun on him? No.
Every movement to cops is “reaching.”
Good shoot.

Its a drunk dude who did nothing illegal at all
While not illegal, getting shite faced and waving a gun around in front of your window is not a very smart thing to do.
The cop had no reason to kill this guy but the guy is by no means innocent. At the very least he is guilty of stupidity.

These situations are never easy to understand and it's not one thing but a series of errors that result in a horrible outcome.
1. Alcohol and Guns. The root cause is getting drunk and waving a gun around. Even if it's only a pellet gun given the rash of shootings what do you think people are going to assume. I'm sure they thought it was vegas again. The police came assuming the worst
2. Training. The training of the police offer on the tape is abysmal. This is on the department
3. Team. The other three officers could have stepped in at anytime and taken over. There were plenty off opportunities to cuff the suspect.
4. Military Mentality - We're not in Afghanistan. Peace officers have to walk the difficult line between the scum of earth and the rest of us. Sometimes they forget that we're in US and the vast majority of us are law abiding. When you dress, have tactics and use weapons implemented by the US military the mindset follows.
5. The Officer. ZERO situational awareness. It's obvious the guy means no harm and we're going to find out the the officer has a history of issues. The screening at the department failed.
Ultimately the death is on Shaver. Don't put yourself in a situation to get shot.

but I'm not second guessing the officer. He leaves his house every night wanting to get home to his family as well. Most of us never have to worry every day that we might get killed doing our jobs.
I'll second guess the crap out of those guys. They deserve to go to jail.
Screw you fro enabling the continued murder of citizens by our alleged protectors.

And he paid a price for his actions. What form of payment does the cop deserve for his culpability in the death of this man? Nothing?
He needs to go to jail. Period.

Uh, let's hold up here...
Imagine you just happened to crash in your hotel room after a night of heavy drinking. You are in the room adjacent to Shaver. You're awoken from noise right outside your door, so you open the door to find out what's going on. You're confused by the scene unfolding in front of you: a woman and man on the floor crying, a SWAT team pointing assault rifles at you and barking orders. You are unable to comply with the bizarre and overcomplicated orders being yelled, so you get lit up with 5 rounds.
But hey, you put yourself in that situation because you were intoxicated and the hotel put you in the room next to Shaver...
Does anyone else get the feeling there was almost nothing he could've done to prevent getting shot?
