That may be a right they have to privacy within their cells. Maybe they can video common areas but not inside the cell. I don’t know shite about it but just a guess.

In the news reports I thought it was insinuated that the cameras in the hallway pick up on cell in a random fashion? Then it was reported he was in solitary so there was no footage. All prisons have hallway footage for security, no?

That would be wrong. They have cameras IN cells in even shitty backwater county jails. Perhaps not in every cell, but in some cells. Epstein would definitely qualify for a cell with a camera.
In any case, cameras in the hallway will at least tell us who came or went from his cell and what what time. That's likely good enough.
Plus we need an autopsy report to determine if his death really was from a hanging. I am not too sure I trust any medical examiner connected to the corrupt New York government to do a fair autopsy.

Actually, you are incorrect. There are not cameras in every federal facility cell. I’ve never heard of in cell surveillance in a federal facility in an ordinary cell.

As a state agent, I worked custodial deaths and homicides in county jails (exclusively rural areas) and state prisons. I’ve never seen a cell with video footage - only common areas. I have absolutely no knowledge of federal facilities so take my post for what it’s worth.

Just a guess here but I am pretty sure you don’t have any privacy rights when you are locked up

You've never heard of it so case closed.
Did the suicide watch cells have cameras? If so, it stands to reason the cell in which they planned the murder would not have them.
