You know, you don’t have to read it.

Hopefully not for a few weeks anyway. We own a ton at ~140. Need a couple of weeks to get it to LTCG status. Greed is good.

Sure. And let those consumers be forced into arbitration or have to sue Facebook individually and see how effective that is in “ending Facebook”.

No it won’t. At all.
I’m fact their stock will be back around 185 in a short time.

They aren’t going anywhere. People need to chill out. I realize in 2018 that’s impossible

Correct. However the majority of the population seems to and the media/politicians certainly pander to it. So while I can personally choose not to read it, it still has a ridiculous effect on national policy. And I consider that to be a serious problem.

Even if FB goes under (doubtful), social media will not.

Absolutely. Let the two contracting parties litigate the issue. A judge will decide. I still fail to see how this implicates any spectrum of political values. Neither party has an inherent support or hatred of arbitration as far as I know.
ETA: I don’t have an interest in “ending” Facebook. I was just commenting that this shouldn’t be a national political issue.

It’s so stupid - this has literally been Facebook’s business model from nearly its inception.

And suddenly because of TDS the most innovative American invention from the 00’s (which has been a loyal ally of the left from the beginning) must be attempted to be destroyed.

I agree. I don’t like it but I agree
To clarify, my issue isn’t with social media itself, although I don’t personally have much utility for it. My issue is that national leaders and the media allow it to be a driving force in discussion, which it absolutely should not be.

Agreed. Have you seen the crap people post on Facebook? And you think they care about privacy?

I dont think they care about privacy. I think they are going to hear $40,000 pr violation and actively sign up for the class action thinking they are going to get $40,000.

$FB ended? Lol. They are a $400 Billion company that has 2.2 billion monthly users. They have $50 billion in cash and are churning out $6 a year in earnings. It’s one of the tech company’s that actually makes $$$. #BTFD

Social Media as we know it will fail, but I am not saying in the next year or two or five. Everything has an ending though and social media will have one as well.

The youngest among us are growing up in a digital world and there are already seeds of discontent with how us older people shaped the world we are in.

As more young people become aware of how a digital footprint is forever, many are choosing to limit it.

25 years ago none of this existed and 25 years from now social media will have morphed to something else. We may still call it social media, but it will become more direct communication between parties and less public. The commoditization with cloud infrastructure and ease of app development will remove the power from central companies.

There is still the data mining issue that can happen from the limited public cloud providers, however as hardware becomes even cheaper other alternatives will come forth.

Millennials and especially gen z will end facebook eventually through non-use.

This latest snafu certainly doesn't help them though. Maybe people will finally realize it's just a data gathering tool for advertisers or worse.

And then the great AI awakens and erases your carbon footprint.
