I’m always amazed that we are always ready to swing the big dick with state sponsors of terror halfway around the globe but are content to accept multiple narco states in our own hemisphere

I've been to Mexico City and Puerto Vallarta numerous times. I felt safer in those cities than I felt in Atlanta, New Orleans, NYC and other places in the US. I had a gun pulled on me in Baltimore and was told to get my "cracka @ss" out of the city. I also was shown a gun and told to get my white @ss out of Ensley, Al, suburb of Birmingham, (I took a wrong turn off an interstate exit).
I have numerous close Mexican friends. They all say the same thing. If you don't F with the cartels, they won't F with you. I'm planning on going to Mexico City in May. I'll love every minute of it. That city is better than most American large cities

Well this is certainly a take. Mexico is proportionally more dangerous than Chiraq my man. Also all of these tourist places you are bragging about going to, im just going to let you know they are allowed to operate as they do and funded by the cartels as a money making venture.

Youre likely going to be safe at these places within the confines of the little 15 minute city style structures of them (me and my wife went once and didnt like it too much) but do not be under any illusions that massive danger is right next to you outside your guilded cage.

In america you are allowed to carry your own firearms with you, which me and my wife always do me i conceal carry my compact sig 9 and she keeps a revolver in her purse, and if someone did the things youre describing to me id dispatch them to the void

Im fine with you having that interpretation of it. It is one I might even agree with I need to give it more thought.

I just really dont like this thought from some people now that we can NEVER use our military ANYWHERE for ANY reason or its a forever war that isnt worth it

Forgive me but I question the framing at least of whomever your friend is or who ever those messages are from or to.

I seriously doubt the US knows it has citizens stranded at the airport in direct and imminent danger and is doing absolutely nothing for them.

I realize you are probably kidding, but our country is already too big to be well governed. The last thing we need is three more left wing super-states.

I guess I should trust your intuition instead of my friend.

What resources do you expect the United States government to bring to bear to save your friend?

Also, is Lauren hot or what?

Im just saying maybe your friend if they are not acting in out right bad faith, because lets be fair here you and the kind of people youre likely to associate with tend to blame America for literally everything, doesnt exactly have all the facts. They may feel like nothing is being done for them but I find it extremely unlikely if they were known to be under direct and imminent threat of life theyd just be left to fend for themselves

How would the “US” know? And what would you expect the US to do? There are airports all over Mexico. Should we fly in military cargo planes to repatriate US citizens from all of these airports?

Is this a serious question? Maybe Elon Musk can send a rocket ship to retrieve Americans stranded in Mexico.

Dead serious.

What resources do you expect the USG to use to help your friend in this situation?

You can't just flip a switch to authoritarianism in a country like Mexico like they did in El Salvador. You're talking about the 13th largest economy and over 130M people (compared to around 6M for ES).

100% agreed.

This is a massive undertaking.

Mexico is embedded with some of our best HUMINT asset gathering and networking in the entire world, I know this because I literally did Human Intel and sourcing and other similar things as a 35M MOS.

We also have been running 24 hour drone ISR operations across the entire country for the past 6 months at least.

There is almost nothing that goes down in mexico that we arent aware of especially something of this magnitude.

Now as to what we could bring to bare to save citizens thats a lot more complicated topic. There are many embedded DEA and CIA combat action units inside mexico but it would have to be some extreme 1 in a million situation to activate them for this purpose.

I would guess we are just bringing to bare the entire force of our massive intelligence operation in Mexico, and have made overtures behind the scenes about the things that will be the consequences if any of these people come to harm

If you think about it, there’s billions in revenue for non-deep state.

Drug dealers spend money and they typically don’t start 401ks and so you can rest assured they are putting it back into the economy by spending on stupid shite.

My friend is in BR. I don't know the person who is stranded in Mexico.

Do you think the US is responding to the situation appropriately by ignoring the stranded citizens?

The government could charter repatriation flights.
